Watch the Rayfield family and friends get together to frame our future marital home. This occurred over 3 months (summer). It was hard doing this across the hottest months of the year! We are so grateful for everyone who came out to help us. Thank you always and forever!

Building your own house is something else. My dad built a big brick house for our family. It took him 8 years. He decided to start building when my mom found out they were expecting me. We moved in when I was 8 and I remember spending days and growing up on the building site, helping my dad and learning SO much. I'm 30 now and even though I went and explored the world and even found a husband, we returned here and live in this beautiful house with my sweet parents. This is my home, I know every nook and cranny and how things work here because I was there when it was built and I just know that when you make or build something with your own hands, there's part of you in it. Forever. So when my parents are gone, all our memories, love, the energy we put into building these walls and floors, it will all be here. It's a very special project, you two...and even though it may seem like too much at times, cherish the process :) I wish you all the best and I'm sending you lots of love from Slovakia ❤

Back in the day you would have a dozen children and 3 or four elders all living in a SINGLE ROOM LOG CABIN. That house is fabulous. They also showed adding a ground floor master bedroom off the frount room. Standard house plan back in the day. We have several houses that were build in 1800s with that layout still standing in my hometown today. Very functional. Be good for generations to come.

So happy for the progress!😊🎉 BLESSING PRAYERS the rest goes smooth with the cooler weather upon us! 🙏 PLEASE READ THIS!!🙏 If it's another hot day, Ron since you HAD A HEAT STROKE, if weather is hot again & you're working on the house, PLEASE take the DO- RAG you wear sometimes & SOAK it in COLD WATER, then wring out & put it on BEFORE working in the heat! MUST Change it out & RESOAK it PERIODICALLY. It WILL act as a radiator to keep your temp down, not overheat! Justine, taking a linen cloth soaked in water to drape around your head & neck & in your ankle stockings while or after cooking over the cabin fire in summer months too. If fainted toward the fire as heat strokes come on quick... I say this only with MUCH LOVE FOR YOU BOTH & YOUR SAFETY. One last thing, since Ron HAD a heat stroke, it can make one prone to more! DURING A HEAT STROKE, IT'S CRUCIAL TO DO THIS: Take wet cloths dipped in cool water & wrap them around ALL THE PULSE POINTS, & SHOVE THEM UNDER ARMPITS DURING THE STROKE / recovery period, OR pour cool water on all the pulse points, head, & armpits along with what you did of water drinking & getting Ron into the AC in the car asap. Medically, the cold wet compresses on pulse points etc help bring your BODY BACK to SAFE TEMPERATURE FASTER so you DON'T have a seizure effect on the brain like you had.😢 I cried when you shared your story as I've been through it & love you both. Sorry if my story is TMI but heat stroke is NO JOKE it's a serious thing. My story too...I found this out divinely given info as a child 10 or 11 yrs old during a summer when I'd have to remain in a vehicle not running AC for long periods while my care giver had to take me with them on job service calls, him doing office equipment repairs inside. These caregivers delegated over my care couldnt afford childcare & knew not of any heat danger, it was an innocent unawares. But I too had a heat stroke as a child but was DIVINE saved. I was literally given the info via holy spirit on how to make cold wet cloths/compresses at 10 yrs old! Given knowledge via a dream the night after I'd had the stroke, a guide telling me to roll up wetted paper towels in strips, put in the fridge freezer of that care givers office kitchen, since they knew not I was in danger of repeat heat stroke or that I'd had one. When i had it, I was drenched in sweat crying in the car, I opened the car door & I leaned out of the car started shaking, felt going to vomit or faint, couldnt make sound anymore from crying either. Id been fanning myself with my book before that. But when i unlocked & opened the car door & leaned out, i was hit INSTANTLY with COLD WIND GUSTS OUT OF NOWHERE ON a 100 DEGREE SUMMER DAY.✝️ Furthermore his service call was at a church office beside a church that was named after a Saint. Hmmm. It was BOTH a scary & later recognized in adulthood as one of many spiritual experiences id have in saving my life many times over through life. Another time a near drowning. Opposite of need for water. But from then on, when I had to sit in the car during his service calls if they were 30 min up to an hour or more at a time in the heat...I'd get back to his office after sat in the car, near to pass out, go grab those wraps & apply them to cool down again whilst I hid my wet paper towel wraps in back of their office kitchenettes freezer. Applied them on all my pulse points (neck wrists ankles forehead armpits etc) & drank lots of water before & after leaving. I'd put the cold wet wraps in my shirt & ankles under my socks. I'd say had to go to restroom before leave & do that so I'd stay cooled, hydrated, & id wet my hair in the bathroom sink so as not to pass out from the heat while no choice but to be left in the car in 90 to 100 temps for extended periods every day in the summer. Important to note- my caregiver was a good law abiding soul who just DIDN'T UNDERSTAND the dangers of heat back then in the 1970s & 80s. But id dream of being with other kids at the pool or not inside a furnace room when not on service calls. I did have books though including little house from 1800s etc. Lol. But that dreams knowledge to use compresses & wet my hair first, it literally SAVED MY LIFE after I had a heat stroke that was bound to continue every day the rest of the summer had I not known to do that!! SO PLEASE BE SAFE! And read this CRUCIAL INFO WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT & TREAT HEAT STROKE WITH SEIZURE!! Since you BOTH do work & film in non AC cabin with a fireplace going in the summer. I WANT YOU BOTH SAFE. Love you both & your 2 channels! Many blessings on your upcoming marriage! Love, Michelle, your neighbor from KS. PS: Visiting St. Genevieve MO historical town is one of my bucket list things to do & take my adult children & grandchildren to do as well as dream to take them to Branson someday. To show My caregivers did try, one year they did take me to Branson another summer when abled to afford to do more. I loved it there. I don't travel much at all with many health conditions now. But I do RECOMMEND your channel & recommend to others to TOUR St. Gen for a weekend getaway, as its a road trip away from my town. If you two ever make it to Hutchinson KS, we have some VERY neat historical places you'd both enjoy, antique shops with old rare items, as well as the local state fair, an underground museum with things of old preserved there- including wonderwomans uniform, and my personal FAVORITE attraction- the cosmosphere which has many wonderful things from NASA & space 'exploration' so to speak. ✨️😉. That would be a fun thing, our historic museum etc, for you to show & discuss on your channel. I just watched your last historic home you toured that just had posters only. So i also recommend president Eisenhower's generational family childhood home in Abilene KS, on the way to my town. It's been preserved authentic & abled to tour through. Even his fathers pipe sets on the table in a case. You'd enjoy it too. Hopefully someday I can attend an historic festival in St Gen & meet the two of you. I have No Doubt You're both going to be future elder leaders of your community, I forsee. And Justine, I'd love to try some of your historic receipts. You are an AMAZING cook! I love the way you (both) showcase the way of life back then peacably & their hardships too. Life was much simpler in many ways but much harder work in many other ways, & lack of knowledge & science. But everyone supported one another as a community back then too to help the young sick poor & old. Family members were looked after & cared for in their old age by the younger generations vs a more independant engrained ideology in the modern age that pushes prevention of that with facilities for elders etc or family seperations became so common vs lifetime bonds they always were without interruption back then. So many lovely things about that by gone era as well as so many tragedies. Like the Little House books I loved as a child, I read to my children & grandchild too that showcased family values, togetherness for entertainment, a simplicity of the heart even though lacking modern science & technology, food hadn't cancerous preservatives either though not convenient to grab & go. It had many struggles but also had great ways of doing things, & thriving too. The goal of progress leaders started surfacing back then too with founding fathers dreams for america for ALL to be free. It is so neat you two shed light on those historic ways & give historic true stories. Lastly, I can't wait to see the finished home! How modern meets historic within it too, im intrigued. As always, praying everyone, you your families & your friends in the community REMAIN SAFE while working through the REST OF THE BUILD, & whatever needs done in the WINTER WEATHER months. Prayers you get the insulation, siding, doors, & windows in before the first snow or cold temps set in. May you continue MANY blessings, along with your lovely community as well! Much love! This ended up being a big long post. Sorry about that but hope it caught your attention on how to react to & prevent heatstroke as best possible. 😊🤍🕊💜⚜️☮️✌️

Great job. Getting all those walls up required lots of careful measuring, Mission accomplished ...Helped my husband put up walls too when we built our house... Now we are in a different place, purchased a 2009 built home ( nice to have a great basement ) and we are pulling out all the cheap pre-finished stuff and replacing with wood we mill on site, and then all gets hand planed, so we too can have an 18th century home.... Good insulation, metal roof, plumbing is a plus. We have hand pumped water too.... Nice to see your project and look forward to see more of this homestead as it grows and matures...

If you ever wanted to add a washroom ( bathroom without a toliet) put it on the back of kitchen. Where the plumming . Its where it is in most old homes. Also where is the well being dug? Or are you just using the stream? how far is the stream? Make sure you have a clear path in winter. ( hauling water takes time allow an extra hour during chores for it) So are we getting a garden and a chicken coop next year?

I just started watching your channel for the past two weeks. I love history it’s one of my favorite topics and classes of all time. I love what you guys are doing with the show and I’m learning things that I find. Very interesting. I always love getting glimpses of the past. I honestly think I was born in the wrong century I wish you guys the best of luck. Keep up the good work. May God bless you guys.

What? No LDL? No steel I-Beams? No newspapers or saw dust for insulation? Just messing with you. Gosh, this brings back memories for building my parents' house, except we did hammers and hand saw sometimes. I wish you two VERY much success with your new house. Thank you for sharing.
