What is a Hone Hone Saurus?????

You basically have the idea stated already. Honehone Zaurus, or BoneBone Saurus, is a candy toy where you build little dinosaur skeletons (and the occasional prehistoric animal or even human). When you get the entire set, you can combine the extra parts to form the hidden creature that is shown in the background. The best thing about them is that you can disassemble the models and make your own figures like other dinosaurs, dragons, skeleton robots, and other such things. There's even a website where you can submit your own pictures of them. I don't know if it's Japan only, but you can get ideas of what to build from there. There is also a storybook-line for children to read the adventures of three dinosaurs. I have no idea what they are about as I do not have any of them (nor can I read Japanese), but basically the three dinosaur buddies go off into adventures of various themes. The books are filled with activities like mazes and word search puzzles if I recall correctly. I am an American Collector of various Japanese Models, and it's great to find someone else who might be interested in them. You can find more of them on Ebay or Amazon Japan. Be warned, as some of them are quite expensive. They can range from $50.00 (current series) to a whopping $300.00 (older series). I can share more detail about the sets with you if you want. For example, the series you have (series 44) is split into two sets of four figures. The four sets can combine into dragons. And the two beasts can combine into one big model.

@@jcdgcrh I do a lotta mini building like Warhammer and what not, but I'm always interested in new and odd things! So I'm real happy a family member sent this too me! (I'm going to try painting it myself to see if I can make it POP a bit more!) I did some research on the HoneHone Saurus and saw they had a MONSTER HUNTER COLLABORATION! Which.... if I get more I wanna get those. LOL So if you have any info on that I'd be grateful! I'll take a look at seeing if I can nab any more Series 44 Minis here! See if I can complete the whole set for fun. And thank you for telling me more about the series! It definitely seems like one of those hidden gems!

@@BotanistCool No problem. You mentioned the crossover with Monster Hunter; Ebay has it for close to $100 for all four sets. I'd say it's worth it if you have the money to get it. I won't spoil which monsters are represented, but I think you'll love them.

Cute! Hone is japanese for bone, so it translates into something like Boney boney dino
