Howdy Wes ! Thankyu for replying & sending this video to me ! Somehow I never saw this one , and I did enjoy the building of it ! Covid & Long Covid took my strength & energy away from me . I have always watched as many of yur videos that I could & a lot of them twice ! I’m starting to come back & reclaim my love for hand built pottery as I just turned 70 , Thx for sharing Wes !

Sorry to hear about Covid. It sounds like it was rough. We are of the same generation and bouncing back just isn't the same as it used to be. Hope you are able to fill your house with pots.

Cool video ... Love the shadows and color of large pots. Very soothing I can stare at the finished piece for hours.❤ Thanks for sharing...

It was so nice to watch you make that pot in such detail! Great idea to have that foam in the box to flip it over into. I was worried about that. Wonderful work and great explanations 😊

I love the sound of the scraping and smoothing, so soothing. I haven't heard that sound at my house very often lately. Everyone on here is making pots that I want to copy, but I don't know if I'm ready for the challenge of trying to make one of these yet. When I get time I suppose I could try a little seed jar to experiment with. I'll put it on my list of things to do next week 😅. Thanks for the video.

I was thinking the sound of scraping was sort of relaxing, is that ASMR? You are probably more ready than you think.

Nice vid Wes, neat to see how other people do things so differently. Enjoyed watching this one. I had some clay I found that did that intensive floppy stuff, drove me nuts, I wound up chucking it in the bin. Good tip you had on letting it sit for a long time to firm up!

Thanks Will. It isn't my nature to be patient but I've rushed these pots in the past and regretted it.

That’s a lovely big pot, you’ve done a fine job of it Wes! Waiting on the painting video now ;)

Thank you. Sorry I didn't do a painting video but it did come out the way I wanted it to.

@@airstreamwanderings3683 o cool ! I suspect Mimbres people did this , maybe not always but, a person who pot hunted before it became unlawful told me he found what looked like a clay dome mold inside a cave shaped like a upside down pot .

Nice piece of work, Wes! Your carefulness and patience showed. Is that a local clay, or did you gather it on one of your adventures?
@airstreamwanderings368311 ай бұрын
Thanks, I wish it were local clay. My Arizona habit is a bit inconvenient.

I realy like the color of your clay, since I live in southern Utah, what type of should i harvest? (If the question is inappropriate, please ignore it)
@airstreamwanderings36839 ай бұрын
Its a good question but a little hard to answer because you don't know what it will look like until you fire it. Red and green generally turn out some sort of red. This clay is grey to start with. Brown clay usually is some sort of tan but it is really hard to know. Good luck, have fun.
@deanmiller59319 ай бұрын
@airstreamwanderings3683 Thank you, Wes, that might be the answer I need. Grey clay is much harder to find, and brown clay is everywhere Thank you for your videos. your work is amazing!

What is the clay body?
@airstreamwanderings36834 ай бұрын
I don't remember. I only use wild clay and I typically mix two different ones together. It really helps if you have good wet strength. Good luck.

Too large!!! lol! Those big ones are easier in some ways to make than smaller pots, but the smallest mistake could make the whole thing fall,... smaller pots are far more forgiving when it comes to reforming. Great video! Nice olla!

I kind of like the danger. The highs are great but the lows can be shattering.
