Neons are one of the saddest aspects of fish keeping in the US. They are foreign bred in vast numbers but they are treated poorly. They ship in huge lots, sell quickly for cheap prices and die. If you carefully nurse them keep a few alive and do that over and over you can successfully breed decent but not vast numbers of them and by F-3 or F-4 you've got a stable population but from a business aspect you will never be able to sell them cheap. A few shops like Dan's Fish have sold some wonderful fish but they were $6-$8 a piece and didn't appear to move that well. Way to many keepers just pay the buck a piece price and replace as they die or give up on Neons all together.
