Winter is here; first snow of the year! In this episode, we build a seating nook in the corner of the cabin. One side has a seat that tilts up for storage, while the other side pulls out to act as a guest sleeping area. We also finish up the trim, both interior and exterior, around the front door. Lastly, we build a makeshift bridge over the stream near our cabin to more safely collect water from it during the winter. We had to empty our rainwater barrels to prevent them from freezing.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

I follow a lot of off grid style living, and even people I watch who heated and lighted thier chicken coop, they have a battery room for thier solar to run the lights, and they vented the battery box they made because of toxic fumes the batteries release when they are charging, Simple Living Alaska, be carefull with indoor battery storage. I am getting nervous with snow and ice on your steps, and no handrail, all the best guys, love following along, be safe.

Hello Nick you need to put on some hand rails on your stairs so that you don’t end up breaking your necks when the stairs get icy.!☝️😊 Just thought I would mention that.😉 Take care of you guys. God bless, and I am really enjoying watching your videos. Take care.

I would recommend nailing some boards onto them three logs so they don’t have any chance to separate while you’re walking on them. That would be a cold splash in the winter time.

Suggestion: Tin roofing or wood siding with Chicken Steel mesh attached to it as Skirting all the side of the cabin would be ideal in winter since it protects your cabin from cold drafts and snow but also protects the cabin for critter infestiation.

I would like to thank the two of you for allowing us to come along on this most entertaining adventure in log cabin building. The way that the two of you share every aspect of the construction process is wonderful. As an eighty-one-year-old lifelong DIYer, I am very impressed with how you work out solutions to all of the problems that come along with a project like this cabin. Please keep posting your progress as I find it relaxing entertainment watching your progress.

Did you know that you can use your hand saw instead of your speed square? At about 9:30 in this video we see the Mrs. marking a board with a speed square, while the Mr. is standing next to her with a saw that I believe has a handle that was specifically designed for you to be able to mark 90 and 45 degree angles. Check it out and see if it works. The handle edge, with the two screws, has a surface that is 90 degrees perpendicular to the non-cutting edge of the saw. And the edge with the single screw is 45 degrees to the non-cutting edge. As long as the edge of your board is "clean" the saw will give you a much longer marking opportunity than your small speed square.

The batteries are lead acid which produce Hydrogen gas. Ventilation is a must. Sealed ones no ventilation necessary. What I don't understand you split your wood then haul it to your wood shed. Cut and split the wood right there. Work smarter Not harder. I do enjoy your Bit&Brace. Does yours have a ratchet system ad thst smaller on you used for the shelves & draws you built. Great build do far.
