Here’s a tip when marking a measurement at the point use a V you’ll see it’s the best if you want one can leaning towards the left or right indicating what side of the line is waist and what to be used. You know the inside or outside of the blade

Just a suggestion,try to find yourself a scrub plain. Some have a convex iron and some have a lesser atch convex are almost serrated. Will make rough plaining so much easier! Check at flea markets etc. If your local Lowe's or whatever hardware store you have might have one if they have a decent handtool aisle. It would make this whole process so much easier on yourself. I've done a lot of sign carving out of rough sawn,and just plane rough wood and a scrub plain will save you hours.

If your interested in learning about traditional woodworking? I highly recommend roy underhill from the wood Wright shop. He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and might be able to help you with plaining, chisels, saws, etcetera. He has written several books as well!! I think what your doing is extremely awesome and cant wait to see it when its done!! Good luck in your endeavor and dont ever give up no matter how difficult or frustrating this project might get!! 👍

If you put a piece of high density foam 2 panel 4 by 8 2inches thick on your saw horses and your lumber on top it will make it easy to cut with out worrying about Your drop just set your blade depth so it just kisses the foam
