We are building a huge roof over this massive deck in this video! We are building a low slope shed roof over this deck, so we have to set our beams and cut all our rafters which will hang off a roof ledger at the house. This is the largest roof we have built on one of our projects!

Get a framing jack guys. Just cause Ant can lift large lumber doesnt mean he should.

To me I don’t think that pitch is enough. I think you’re gonna have problems with standing water in the snow but what do I know?

How can I get more info on how you framed for you roof posts to supported on the cantilever? I'm trying to plan a covered porch on our home and would like to do something like this, without a bunch of extra footings... also what header did you use for that span? I'm hoping to span about 14' on each side of ours.... any help would be appreciated thanks

Hate to be that guy but the pitch of that roof is not enough. Water is going to sit up there and pool up then it will run off in large amounts instead of a consistent drip. Snow will stay up there til completely melts off.

Where is the mid-span rotation blocking and the up lift hardware? When roof sheathing you don’t need to pre-cut the field mark and keep your layout and you can go back and cut your overlapping plywood. It faster and easier.

Yeah good thing you didn’t lose your footing with those tennis shoes on. You couldn’t have held the beam on one leg and you’ve been on your back with the beam across your neck. I’ve done plenty of stupid just saying.

For the 4x6 bracket you could have attached to post. Then installed it on the framing. The slot on the side will allow you to feed a nut and washer in with a box end wrench. Feed the bolt up from under the deck/framing and hit/capture the nut. You would hold the nut with the wrench and tighten bolt from below. That is how you could have got that bracket in. I have had one inspector who used that slot to check and make sure the nuts inside the bracket were tight. Now I know you are well past that now but for next time.

Just curious why you wouldn’t do box framed stairs instead of all those stringers?

Hate when you have two helpers and they just watching instead of holding the ladder or something they don’t want it to fall on em I guess😮

Why didn't you use just a solid 6x6s for post from the ground up, instead of splitting the post into two sections then using the metal bracket on the topside of the deck?
