Thank you for taking the trouble to share your modeling skills and knowledge with us, nothing seems to go a miss and taking the trouble to photograph the real thing ensures this. I'm an ex BR signalman so your piece on that was refreshing to see as it's usually modelled inaccurately if at all, thank you again.

Brilliant video Richard. A massive well done with the point rodding especially. When I was 12, I was modelling a preserved line and I attempted point rodding. It was alright, used up a lot of space though. Excellent work on the ground frame though. If you're going to have signals or different operations levers, blue is point locks (on the current ground frame), black is the point lever, yellow is a distant, red with white stripe is a section signal and red is a 'plain' signal. Hope you find it useful. Your channel has always inspired me about my layout and whenever I need help, your channel is the first port of call. Great video Richard, am loving this series

The small added detail really makes the yard. You can buy the blended grey ballast in bottles, that's what I use. I buy it in medium and fine. If I can't get the blend, I just buy the light grey and dark grey. For some reason the hobby shop doesn't bring in very much of the blend but do the single colours. Great job. Scott

I look forward to the finished part of the ballasting. As far as I was aware the sidings were normally almost earthy in appearance as they were normally left to their own devices, and often quite level due to fluids from cleaning and so on. Point rodding is delightful....if only someone would make it in N...2mm Society do some but I cant get a mortgage to buy enough for a 20ft x 11ft layout!!! Cheers, Bob

Just a thought, the rodding kit includes the locking mechanism only, you will need to install the blade setting rods too,.. The locking is for facing points ( foot end ) to protect oncoming trains from possiblity of incorrect switching movement and locks the blades from moving, avoiding derailments...

Nice update. Nice details. What I do with the relay boxes and point motors is give them a spray of light grey primer...covers them perfectly in one spray and saves the hassle of brushing paint on. I also bulk spray the cable trunking using concrete paint. Interesting choice to use the point rodding....would have thought that was outwith your era?....I have toyed with the use of that at my TMD area as I suppose some points remained manually switched in these areas. Cheers Dave
@EverardJunction9 жыл бұрын
DaveClass47 Hi Dave. I usually spray stuff but at the time the airbrush was in bits being cleaned. Brush painting works well provided the paint is correctly thinned. You'd be surprised about point rodding. If you look carefully some isolated places today still use it. Back in 1989 many yards and minor lines used it. The Glasgow to Edinburgh line still used it at some major junctions such as Larbert. London still has two mechanical boxes on mainlines in 1989. The was a lot of upgrades and improvement during that time which is why I went for the mix of rodding and motors. Cheers
@DeanPark9 жыл бұрын
EverardJunction Now you mention it, you're spot on regarding the Edin - Glasgow line...I have just unearthed some photo/postcards of that era and there is some. I might add some along near my TMD, when the time comes as, even just to have some variation, if it comes with decent instructions I will do a bit of research to find out where it was positioned. Interesting bit of kit though! Cheers.

Great set of videos Richard ,like the detailing round the signal box ,will look forward to more updates on the finishing touches ,one comment on the Ballasting I have found using a cap off an aerosol can and shaking the ballast on very sparsely almost not enough ballast so that when you brush it around it just in some cases barely reaches the top of the sleeper to be a lot easier and saves a lot of brushing ballast around cheers Kevin

Hi there, I love your videos, they have helped me ALOT on my layout that i've just started. I'm up to ballasting and watched a previous video where you ballasted points and it was quite meticulous, but the ballasting of points on this video is a lot more like ballasting regular track which looks a lot easier... i get the bit about using blue tac for insulfrog points, but when you add the glue mixture all over, how do you prevent the points from being glued into that position? or do you just move them after they've dried to free them up. sorry if thats a stupid question, i just want to get it right :)

This is the first of your videos which I have seen. Very informative - thank you. I wonder why you didn't "weather" the track before laying it? This makes it much easier to paint the rust in to the metal parts without getting it onto the sleepers.

Excellent set of videos enjoyed watching these, Sorry I hadn't found them before. Just a couple of things, the first is the wire you use, On a past layout I made in the 70s I used Wrapping wire 30 AWG, with a solid core. very fine easily hidden, and could carry enough current for most railway accessories and point motors etc. Don't know if you can still get it the Other point is the Relay boxes you put near the signal box. I noticed you put a small one near the two points and a large one near the single point wouldn't they be the other way around?
@thegrowler-blackwoodngauge9 жыл бұрын
Another informative video. Interested in how you painted the cable trunking. I presume it's Ratio - I use the N gauge version on my own layout which I spray with Model Mates dye and quickly wipe off leaving the joins betwen the individual lids neatly highlighted and the truncking itself weathered.
@EverardJunction9 жыл бұрын
The Growler The trunking I used is from 10 commandments and its totally white so I prefer to paint it into a concrete colour before weathering it.

Another great instalment as per usual. All is looking great indeed and real progress is showing, making it a lot more satisfying for you I can imagine. Could you tell me what colour paints you use for the trunking, relay boxes and rodding please? As well as that how do you stop the glue locking the points after ballasting? Also have I missed it or have you only installed facing point locks and not the side mechanism to operate the points in reality? All the best, Jack
@EverardJunction9 жыл бұрын
PeakeyFortySix At the moment the rodding is unpainted. it will get weathered with sleeper grime, roof dirt and oily black. The trunking is painted with woodland scenics concrete paint and the relay boxes are painted with a mix of woodland scenics black and grey. After ballasting has dried I just manually free the points with a screwdriver if they are stuck. At the moment the rodding is just facing point locks as thats what the kit does. There are some ramps left to put on and I may add some extra detail.
