Fantastic tutorial, Kier! You really showcased the most optimal way to use every aspect of the Montage M to it's full potential when it comes to this use case - the VCM Rotary Speaker Effect on part 1, Keyboard Control, Splits and Layers, MIDI Channel, utilizing parts 9-16 for external keyboards to save on keyboard controllable part slots. Superb! I've been a long time Montage user myself but I too learnt a thing or two. Keep up the great work! 👍

Very interesting. I don’t have a Montage but I’ll soon be attempting a similar setup on my Kurzweil K2700. It won’t have as many parts though - they would be hard to keep track of in live performance. Maybe I’ll make a video of my setup! Sadly it won’t be as slick as this one…

What's the quickest way to put the Montage M into Multi/GM mode?
@KierDarby3 күн бұрын
Press PERFORMANCE / HOME, then CATEGORY, select the Init category, and choose the Multi/GM performance. If it's not shown, check that it's not being excluded by any Bank or Attribute filters.

@KierDarby Thank you! For those of us who use a MPC for sequencing is there a way to filter out presets with more than one part so when browsing we see only one part presets?
@KierDarby3 күн бұрын
@smokey5100 yes, in the Performance Search system (the CATEGORY button), click on [Attribute] and select [Single] to filter the results to single-part performances only.

thanks...what about a video showing controlling another keyboard using the Montage M with internal sounds..basically the opposite of this...

So, using the Montage as a MIDI controller for another synth, with the other synth providing all the sounds?
@alexmello919226 күн бұрын
@@KierDarby maybe. Using a M8x and Modx7 on top. Strings on the Modx and piano on the M8 but controlling both layers on the M8...i use an expression pedal on the modx to bring in the strings but its affecting every other performance even though i have specific parts transmitting...dont have to answer that, but a video setting up basic midi between 2 boards, controlling with the M8

@@alexmello9192 I’m not sure there’s an awful lot more I could add to the subject than what I demoed in the “nodody wanted this change” video where the Montage and Montage M control the Quantum from a part with Zone enabled, sending arpeggios and program changes over MIDI… though I suppose Montage M controlling Montage could be interesting, with multiple parts over multiple channels.

Is this possible with the original Montage?
@KierDarby20 күн бұрын
Yes and no... the original Montage and MODX don't have the ability to change the MIDI receive channels for individual parts, so the controller keyboard would need to be able to set up its own split zones, each with the correct MIDI channel assigned in order to talk to the corresponding part on the Montage. Something like the Kontrol S series from Native Instruments could do that. However, what the classic Montage could not do is have multi-part instruments outside of the keyboard control group being controlled from external zones, because just about no MIDI controller can assign multiple MIDI channels to a keyzone.
