Great and clean job. I am making a bed just like yours. But have to make my own hardware. Because here in El Salvador there's nothing like that. There's no Rockler store. I will use 1/2 inch bolts as hinges and a couple gas shocks 15n. I hope will work. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from El Salvador.

Could you share what pull handle you used & where you got it? I’m guessing it’s 36” long? Thanks in advance.

Question for you. I am getting ready to build one myself. The plans use mostly 3/4" (0.75") plywood. Quality sanded plywood is sold in 23/32" (0.71875") Yes, this is a tiny difference. Did you need to adjust anything for that difference?

Great question! The actual product thickness I used was 0.701". I did not have to deviate from the original plans.

Create A Bed instructions say 3/4" x 1 1/2" for the struts, yet you say you used 1" x 2" pine boards. Did you follow the kit instructions exactly (when purchasing the wood), or improvise?
@HouseholdHowTo2 жыл бұрын
So the 1" x 2" pine boards that you get from the big box store actually measure 3/4" x 1.5" in real life. One of those strange "why do they do that?" things. Great question though!

@@HouseholdHowTo I suspected as much. This is something that drives me insane when buying wood.

Great video! I’ve had the kit sitting in the room for a year and need to just build it! Did you use a specific plywood? For example, Birch maple or pre finished?
@HouseholdHowTo Жыл бұрын
Regular old birch plywood from Lowe's. Sorry for the late reply! Thanks for checking it out!

When did you paint?
@HouseholdHowTo3 жыл бұрын
All of the individual pieces were fabricated, sanded, and then painted prior to assembly.

@@HouseholdHowTo Great video! Follow up question regarding painting...why did you put the hardware on before painting? Wouldn't painting before applying the hardware make painting easier? Thanks!
@HouseholdHowTo3 жыл бұрын
You're right! So what I did here was assemble all of the hardware onto the pieces, then took it all back off to paint. This way I was able to make sure the hardware fit correctly so that I could address any issues before painting. Thanks for watching!

@@HouseholdHowTo Thanks for clarifying! That makes a lot of sense. Do you mind sharing your priming/painting steps? We also want to paint our murphy bed white but I wasn't sure how much sanding / priming I would need to do. Thanks again.
@HouseholdHowTo3 жыл бұрын
Sure! The plywood didn't need a ton of sanding work before the primer. I just used some 220 grit to remove any stray chips and gave the whole thing a light pass. Zinsser BIN was the primer used, two coats with a light 220 sand after each. The finish was Sherwin Williams Pro Classic with some added Floetrol, two coats applied with a foam roller. This stuff levels out really nicely and dries rock hard. I'm very satisfied with the finish, but I'm sure there are definitely other options out there. I'm definitely a fan of alkyd paint for furniture.
