What a good wife for helping and a great pup you have there too

This is amazing. The look, simple construction, no mortar, or anything that I could possibly use for a later project. 10/10 5 stars 👊🏼

Thanks! It is still going strong and holding up well. Have made no changes other than digging it back out to remove ashes after a couple of seasons.

Love those rectangular flats, they make great cappers at the top ring of a stone fire pit. I always prize these the most and rarely use them in the beginning base unless they are massive and only can be moved by scooting them around on the ground. 4:24 You started over correct decision. You have to stagger the rock over the seem not stack

About how deep did you dig? This came out beautiful.
@RiverLifeWV Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was approximately 16 inches deep. They layer of rocks on top of the edges adds another couple of inches.

Enjoyed the vid. Really liked the music. Who is that?

Unfortunately, can't remember the band. YT gives creators music they can use for free. I loved it too, though!

Figured you would go a little bit taller with the stones or add mortar so nothing slides around, but it looks nice!

Thanks! Here is what I've learned about fire pits. If they are too deep, they are hard to build fires in. If too shallow, the fire can escape easily. If the outside walls are too tall above the ground, they funnel the heat up high so that you can't feel it around the fire pit. We did fiddle with the rocks a lot to get them stable, and so far, nothing has moved.
@RiverLifeWV Жыл бұрын
It may have been slightly deeper. If it gets too deep, it's hard to build the fire without getting in the pit.

Those creek rocks will explode because of the water content in them.

They haven't ever exploded.

My kind of fitepit. In ground and natural stone. Big enough to burn shrubbery in. Never understood people that build a tall above ground pit. All it does is block heat and looks unnatural

Nothing worse than a fire pit that blocks heat! Thanks!

Be careful using river rocks. Moisture-friendly rocks can chip and sometimes explode in high heat.
@RiverLifeWV2 жыл бұрын
Yes, thanks for the reminder. I've found that the shale type seem to be more likely to pop and explode, but they don't survive well underwater with turbulence. In our river, the rocks actually in the water are usually strong and solid while the rocks on the mtn sides (shale and sedimentary) are definitely suspect.

Never take rocks from the river, they can explode with a high heat
