In the beginning that was the intent, but to get coop to work we had to rip apart the entire code base so we went all in to make a new experience. Ironically the hardest challenge then became not losing the original feeling of Kingdom in the wake of new features.

The old woman gives you upgrades for your buildings, that's why you were able to upgrade your farm at the 3rd lvl. And that's why your horse came back

Usually it's best to have an inner wall+ tower and an outer wall + tower MINIMUM on each side of the town center. People usually will restart their game if the merchant doesn't allow for two walls on one side.
