Congratulations, you are on your way. Like you, my walls are 14’ and we built a loft as well. You will love your new space. By warned, it’s tough to heat. A big wood stove can dent in it, but it’s still cold. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress

Nice work / Once you start a project like that it becomes addictive and you can't wait for daylight the next morning. It's also very satisfying when your done that you did it and saved a ton of money. Also to have a place to put everything you own under cover from the elements, that's a good feeling

Don't be angry, but in 10 years at the latest your logs will have rotted away in the ground and you will need a new barn. With a bitumen coating and concreted-in beams you would have something of the barn for longer.

Thanks man, the company I went through who kitted the entire pole barn kit out said that the posts holes do not need to be filled with concrete after.. the concrete pucks we put in the holes before the posts “is all you need” says the kit instructions.. also my front yard stays EXTREMELY dry even in the spring and fall.. and my soil up there is all sandy loom which does not retain water.. keeping water or wetness away from the posts is key and up in my front yard it’s always as dry as a popcorn fart so I don’t see there being an issue for at least 25-35 years

Off topic kind of, but I recently got a B2601 and been digging with it and moving gravel also. I got teeth with it, no weights in the back. The teeth made it a game changer. It’s like digging with a ditch witch. Love these machines!

Good video to watch Biff, I am not 100% sure but in New Zealand the council makes everyone pour concrete around the poles after they are in the ground. We do have strong winds here at times though.

Thanks Trevor! For this kit that I used, per the instructions it says “no concrete is to be added with the posts only the concrete pucks/footers are to be dropped in the holes before the posts” so basically because there is a concrete puck/footer beneith the post the post will not settle or have any issues with longevity.. also my front yard stays extremely dry and the topsoil up there is sandy loom which doesn’t retain moisture so we should be set specially if the company making the kits says not to do it. I also found that to be strange tho and had to question it till I found that in the paperwork with my kit. Hope to have part 2 soon so stay tuned!

Good start Mike. The one thing I am surprised at is you didn't scrape all the topsoil away before you started, and put a nice bed of gravel down before the posts/walls are in the way. You definitely don't want your concrete floor on top of that topsoil.

The goal is to have 12 foot ceilings if funds allow. If not then we will do 10 foot ceilings. The bigger overhead doors get expensive real fast.

Finally, a pole barn builds, but man I did not realize you were going to be working on full-size excavators in there. That roof is gonna waaayyy up there. How tall are those walls? 20' Are you planning on doing a loft area around the sides and back for storage or office space? You are really going to need a wood-burning fireplace to keep that warm in the winters for sure.

Hey thanks Robert! I agree it’s a nice decently level but very dry spot to put it.. my front yard never holds water, it’s always been the driest area of my entire yard so i was happy to put it there. The barn is a 24x32.. I wish I coulda went bigger but im maxed out on length since I had to be 50’ from the road, I coulda went 28’ wide tho prolly but I have a few trees which woulda interfered.. eventually I’m gonna cut them down, woulda liked to do it first but I ran out of time. Hope all is well!

Hey Stephen, my pole barn I did mention in the very first video where I picked up and unloaded the pole barn but that was months ago now. The barn size is a 24x32.. it’s bascislly as large as I coulda went while still giving myself some room between the road and my house, and the front yard with the trees on either side of it.

Hey James, no concrete is needed here because of the concrete disks/footers that we dropped into the holes.. this is all you need. If you add concrete around the posts that’s actually when they can rot easier and can lift (so Iv been told). The company who built me this kit said no concrete should be used besides the disk footers we dropped into the holes. Thanks for watching!

When you put concrete around the poles, it gives the dirt around it a good way to grab the poles and heave them with the frost. No concrete means the dirt will just slide up the post without disturbing them.

I don't understand your method of foundation. I would put a metal shoe on the posts and fill the holes with concrete. So the wood would not be in contact with the earth and the foundation would be stronger. Why would you bury your posts in dirt? The wood will rot and the foundation is weak. Concrete is cheap and the metal shoes will also be cheap. Your barn would last 50 years longer that way. Shoe might not be the correct word. It is what it is called in German.

Using those concrete pucks keeps the end of the wood from the dirt and keeps the foundation strong. The company who builds out these pole barn kits in my area sells thousands of pole barn kits a year.. in their instructions they tell you not to fill the holes with concrete as the concrete can actually lift the posts when the water gets in and freezes.. all that is required in the instructions is to drop the concrete pucks in the holes before setting your posts on top and backfilling them with dirt.. the area in which my pole barn is being built is also VERY dry.. it’s the only area in my yard that is never wet.. even in the spring and fall it doesn’t leave tracks/ruts or hold water.. the topsoil I have here is sandy loom.. it filters the water really well and keeps the dirt dry.. in the summer the ground is like a desert and can become very dusty at times when I mow. Hope this helps explain some. I realize that in differnt areas you would wanna use different techniques but where I live and for my kit this is what was required. The guards that attach to the posts aren’t a bad idea tho and had I known about them I prolly woulda used them anyways just for the hell of it. Thanks for watching!

@@BiffsEquipment where I live the foundation has to be at least 80 cm deep to avoid frost damage. Otherwise the foundation would raise as you say.
