Hi Andy ... I am a retired grandpa and am building my first ever diorama with (sort of) my 8 yr old grandson. I've watched several hours of videos and began the model ... but I learned more useful information from this video than all the others combined. Many thanks from a happy grandpa.

I know I am very late to the party ... but I am a some-what new modeler and diorama builder, I have an idea in mind for a diorama from this video. Thank you so much for sharing this info!❤

Great job, I love the white ripples in the water. One minor critique would be to slightly rut the boards where the dirt track meets the bridge on either side. Great job

This is real nice. Try the bridgedeck with a small gap, maybe a 1mm or less, betwen the floorboards.

Nice job. Just one quick tip, I've been working with the pink and blue foam for a while and I've found if you use a wire brush to "rough" up the mating surfaces of the foam and all the surfaces that are being covered with plaster and/or sculpt-a-mold, everything adheres much better. And if you are just painting the foam itself just hit it with some fine sand paper.

Andy, I really like this bridge setting! It is easy to imagine this could have been, or still is, a stream crossing for a village, and any amount of the sorted traffic. I would have colored the bridge darker, in the onset, but it turned out beautifully with the addition of those wonderful ripples! Those ripples made this into a super-class exhibit!

Nice work! TIP- Don't be afraid to put plants and leaves in the water. Real water has plenty of greenery in it. 2 days is nowhere near enough time for that WS water effect to dry. The thicker it is, the longer it takes to dry. It will dry completely clear and will need some sort of tinting or paint.

Great diorama, just the wooden plank at the front of the bridge may be better with front edge wearing where vehicles hit entering the bridge.

The diarama of the bridge & road, a great result,Andy. Very realistic.
@soupfork21056 жыл бұрын
Great job as usual. Just 2 things I noticed: First, with a wooden bridge in a dirt road, you’re expect the planks at the beginning and end to be worn, maybe even bent and splintered. Also the constant wheel traffic over the bridge would cause slight indents of a lighter color as the wood constantly gets ‘sanded’ by wheels and grit. Secondly, the middle supports in the water look completely dry. Wood soaks up water so you’d expect the wood to be wet at least a foot or so above the water line in a fast flowing river, from soaking and spray. Same for the river banks, the need to be wetter. I usually do this by mixing clear gloss with a few drops of black and airbrushing along the water line.

Yep. Just some hints for realism. But sometimes realistic is not worth the effort and a model can be fine with inaccuracies. Andy once painted an ISU 152 Nato Green.

Good fast work. Can you tell us how long in working hours you'd spent (outside the drying periods) on this diorama ? Sure, a few features could have been improved to the life likeness. But that could last forever. What I am missing is a "story" in the diorama. This scene, even with better dirt, puddles, wear, foliage..is still dull. Especially in a modelmaking convention, noone is giving this more attention than a glance. But a STORY image, would keep attention. Examples; german soldiers checking the bridge for fear of it not holding the manouvring stug. Or an SOE team under the bridge not quite ready to finish the explosive charges,and now being caught on that spot. .. Even if the figures are painted imperfect, it still gives more eye candy delight.
@danphilpott63026 жыл бұрын
One other comment, not criticism! I love your work! Typically wooden deck bridges have a wear surface added in flat lumber where the tires or tracks would run. This ensures the structure of the bridge is unaffected by wear and tear resulting from traffic. Makes maintenance much easier also. Luckily, it also gives an excellent opportunity for modellers to add some real wear and tear and weathering effects. Once again, love your work!

Wow that's just awesome. I'm new to modeling and I've been looking everywhere to find someone that has shown me a way to get started trying this. The foam starter base is what I like. You can get a lot for a descent price at a hardware store. Now I've gotta basic platform to get started. Thanks Andy for the video. It has helped me more than any I've watched thus far. I'll take any advice from anyone on a reply. Tks

to hold your sculptamold to foam, you can use small screws and screw them down leaving the head up so the molding compound will squeeze under it holding it in place.... just a thought, I am getting ready to start on an about a 5' x 4' table woodland battle scene with bridge and water I am a disabled veteran on disability so money is tight, but time I do have as long as I don't Croke beforehand.. lol....just a thought. and most of all a big thank you for all your great videos they are very helpful and delightful.

Awesome I love it great job. Just being helpful by saying this, if you want to save your tamiya paint go to Walmart in craft section and get the acrylic paint. Its cheap goes a long way. I use it on my dioramas so I don't have to use all of my tamiya paint. Just helping you out. Up to you i just brush it on. Once again awesome work.

Now this is a project I'll definitely follow! Looks to be a real labour of love as there's so much detail can go into it. I can't believe I'd never heard of RT Dioramas before. I've just had a look at their website and there's some fantastic stuff on there and they seem to be reasonably priced too. This means I can hopefully give up on Miniart buildings and the stress that they bring with them LOL. Mind you looking at their website they seem to have stopped making most of them. Keep up the good work Andy, always informative and emjoyable videos.
