It's sometimes handy to trim the hems off the drop cloths, so you don't have bumps. You might also consider putting the canvas in the dryer to get the wrinkles out. I know you finished your project years ago, but in case someone else is making one

i know this is an old video but i just found your channel. and yes i winter camp 6 months a year in the off season. im thinking about building one of these myself because im getting too damn old to be wrestling a 80lbs hot tent around. that's without the wood stove of course.

"Winter" camping here in Canada usually means going in snowshoes to a log cabin somewhere ;-)) Only the most adventurous take a winter tent when it's -25C, I prefer igloos and build one in my backyard pretty much every year to sleep in it just for fun, and now the kids are old enough to join in. I'm also starting my own foamie "teardrop" (in part thanks to your videos), the insulation will make it definitely worth it.

@@brunoethier896 I'M in BC interior, we generally don't get good snow for igloos. I've overnighted in one on Halls beach -85c "What was I thinking?" It was a SOV-OP in 91 I think. I'm also thinking of something like this, but I'm going to build the trailer too. Sigh, sucker for punishment.

Don't know if you will get this. But, I can tell you after 2 years of winter camping I would have it no other way. By now you probably have done some winter camping. A lot easier to stay warm and not fight bug's.

I used two jugs of titebond glue on the outside and used bedsheets and paint on the inside without any glue.

Bedsheet are a great idea! Do you think I am using to much glue? I watched many other use two coats of glue. on a side not me and water never get along,, I just to not want it to leak,,,, also you got a photo of your?

@@WhatTheHellAmIThinking i found the primer stuck better than glue but was harder to apply. I only used glue to stick the canvas on and then saturated the canvas with primer and paint. I figured paint is pretty water proof.

Looking good so far. I subbed to follow your journey. Btw, do you think a foamie could support kayaks on a rack?
@Rick964 жыл бұрын
Mine is 5 feet wide with basically no spars and the middle would not support weight but if the rack was attached to the edge above the walls I would think it hold quite a bit.
@WhatTheHellAmIThinking4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I tried to reply yesterday and for some reason it would not let me, anyway if you added a couple of supports in the walls like 2x2 then yes it would.

@@Rick96 that's what I was thinking as well, but wasn't sure if I might need to glue strips of wood across the roof and over the corners to spread the load

@@WhatTheHellAmIThinking no problem. I'm enjoying the updates. Yes that sounds like the safest bet. Can't underestimate forces from hitting bumps in the road. Perhaps routing a channel in the foam to glue wood strips in could be enough..
@Rick964 жыл бұрын
I have thought of a rack and what I would do is run the rail flat above the wall and then put cross bars on the rails. That would distribute the load across the entire wall length.
