Thank you for the video. I'm assuming most of your viewers are Tamiya fans with experience building kits so I understand why you sped up the building process, but the M08 is my introduction to Tamiya and kit building in general, and would have liked to see you build in real-time. Perhaps consider a how-to library for us newbies getting into RC and Tamiya kits. Your videos are of the highest quality and you seem to have a wealth of knowledge - thanks for sharing.

What A GREAT idea!💡 Wish I had thought of that..........................😖 It's a Pro Level Kit, so there's some things that many Tamiya lovers may not be used to. The Control Arm trimming is because this shares that part with the M07 Pro. Most M Chassis Cars (except for the M01-M03), feel a bit "soft". But they are a bit flexible and quite durable! The Plastic Spider Gears do seem naff... but they're Delrin Plastic, and DO hold up well. The Diff Oil they supply seems too THIN. Like about 2000-4000 CST. I'm currently building a FF-03 Pro, and it also came with that. I used 50,000wt instead, and the Diff is very smooth, but will actually act like a limited slip Diff. 😉 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

No Prep Drag racing is Taking Off here in America, I almost got sucked in but then decided it will be less pathetic to race alone on a closed circuit track, than in a straight line. So I have decided to build the M-08 Concept and get the Mk2 1800 Body when it becomes available, I would rather Rally about the countryside myself.
@stuartleckie4 жыл бұрын
Coincidentally/conveniently I picked up that exact kit late last year to race at our local club, so I’ve set it up with far too many of the go faster goodies. BUT. Our club will be done in May, so you can likely guess where my MK2 body is going to end up 😆 It did bother me that Tamiya have released the Escort on a 4wd chassis (kinda the opposite of the old Brat - whoever heard of a 2wd Subaru😆) I can also tell you as someone who has raced Tamiya Minis for quite a few years, that the 08 is my favourite to date, in terms of club racing. The build was quite straightforward, but maintenance is a bit of a pain. Getting to the diff in particular requires quite the tear down, and as I do swap between geared and ball diffs that can be annoying.

Looks good. Be interesting to see how it compares to the 01x.... both handling & speed but also ride height.
@jamesbassett14844 жыл бұрын
You make it look too easy! I recently built one last month. Of course, it was my first Tamiya build so it was unfamiliar. The instructions are sparce. My main trouble I had was with the pivot points for the steering as I understood the instruction to mean that they should be bolted down straightaway rather than wait for the upper housing. I used the shortest wheelbase and the car does have a definite rearward bias and will do 360's without difficulty on a smooth surface.

I really like the look of the M-08, I'm planning on getting one later this year. I'm going for an MX-5/Eunos bodyshell, my plan is to make it like a touring car a la Gran Turismo ;) And it'll be bright yellow too!!

Oh, I agree with you on it being a little too flexible stock. The blue alloy and carbon parts do sort that out, but while those DO absolutely make a difference, if you are not racing it then I wouldn’t bother upgrading unless you maybe break something then you can upgrade at that point.

Hi Gav, super build video as usual. Having built an M08, I'm a little concerned about the angle of your front c-hubs. They seem to be tilting forward; is that right? Given that most cars have caster that tilts the c-hubs backwards, my concern is that you may have installed those little C6 parts the wrong way around. I may be wrong though, but worthwhile to check just in case.

Be interesting to see what the comparison shows up between the 4wd and rwd chassis. Personally, I don't get the criticism of the kit being 4wd and therefore not true to life. Well, no, but then I seem to remember the real escort being bigger than the Tamiya model, not powered by an electric motor etc etc. It is just a model and won't recreate the real thing perfectly! Apart from anything else, are there any RC front engined rwd chassis out there?
@kenzubeck43334 жыл бұрын
Mst FXX 2.0 S - front motor/rwd
@MarJay19804 жыл бұрын
The battery is the lions share of the weight in an RC car, rather than the motor, so motor positioning is less critical. With that in mind, the driven wheels do make a difference to the scale experience of the model. One of the first things that comes to mind about the Mk1 and Mk2 escorts as rally cars is their RWD handling. 4WD is by definition so neutral that it takes a lot away from how the Ford should drive. I like 4WD models, I have two of them, but they are both cars which are 4WD in 1:1 form. I am a huge fan of the real classic Alpine A110. Tamiya re-re'd it loads of times but all on different chassis with different drivelines. One FWD, one 4WD and a couple of RWD. One of the biggest characteristics of the A110 is Rear engine RWD handling. A FWD Alpine is not an Alpine, and so I cannot fathom why Tamiya would produce a 4WD version, let alone a FWD version. It's just too far from what makes the 1:1 car what it is.

Mate no no you got it all wrong escorts have a straight axle rear end not a double wish bone. you need to use a CC01 with front drive disabled then you will have a close nostalgic connection but a double wish bone front rear with 2WD won't be close to an escort. Think about a racing quad bike it has a hard kick ass rear end locked up well that's kinda what these cars had in the 60's and 70's no double wishbone magic no sir.
