Building A Reptile Hide - Vlog 18

Hi guys! I FINALLY GOT A FOAM CUTTER. Haha, I was super excited to get this thing, and it made cutting foam so much easier (as it should). I built Winter, my leopard gecko, a hide to go into his new tank (upgrade coming soon), and I'm currently working on the background to go into that tank as well. I also fed Theon, my pacman frog, and my ropefish some worms. Plus, I got a new background...again.

Will the humidity in a ball python tank damage this hide? Is it water proof?

It's not waterproof like it is, but I did make one similar for my ball python. Just make sure all of it is covered in grout, and then you have to add some kind of water proofer. I like to use Shellac (which is all natural), which you can get at home depot or lowes. You just spray it over the whole thing, let it dry, and add another coat or 2. Then make sure it completely dries before putting it in the tank. According to the company itself, it's completely non toxic when dry. (I've even seen it as an ingredient in some sprinkles 😬). 😊 Mine has held up for 6 months now and no signs of wear. Edited to add: just to clarify, this makes it water resistant, even in high humidity tanks, but you can't submerge it in water.

Does the styrofoam hold up to the heat alright? I just got my beardie yesterday and after watching your channel, I want to do some DIY stuff in his home!

By itself I'm not sure (it probably does though, since it can be used for home insulation), but when sealed in grout or silicone it definitely does! 😊 all of those sorts of hides I've made are still going strong 😊

Just wondered. I was a massage therapist for 12 yrs and a lot of migraines originate in the upper part of the neck, when there have been injuries to the upper spine. Women tend to carry a lot of stress in the shoulders and neck. I get migraines, too, but mine starts w/ sinus probs. It's a b**ch

That's interesting. My shoulders and neck are always super tense. No upper spinal injuries, but I did have a baby 6 months ago (my migraines picked up like crazy after that).
