You need insulating material especially in the heat riser, but also optimally in the burn chamber. This will not burn clean/effective. And air-vent is needed at the bottom. Benefit with the sand is that you can change it. Vermiculite is good for the heat riser.
@frantzjensen39836 жыл бұрын
Carbon monoxide is what is expelled you need to vent that out side the green house, second make a lid for the burn chamber, so you can adjust the air flow too, the intake is ok size, but when you want to keep the mass hot / warm you will need to close off the intake all the way a steel plate resting on top will work. wish you luck.

I noticed that you have forgotten to make a air vent door before the fire pit. This air vent door is to open and close to allow airflow that will feed the fire or lessen the fire. Its also where you will remove the ashes. If the air passage vent was big enough, you can actually bake in it. You didnt need to cut down the barrel, it was the missing air vent passage that you did not make that's causing the smoke and not allowing the wood to burn consistently. As per Joe, you have gone as far as making the vent right up to the open roof, you MUST still vent atleast 3 ft PASS the roof to be absolutely sure to clear C02. This is health concern and should be completely finish. I love what youre doin for the greenhouse to help community, but Please do a bit more research before lighting up and check and take all safety precaution. Thank you and God bless.
@gjh4210 жыл бұрын
You do not add a separate air vent at the base of the feed tube - that will allow the flames to climb up and out of the feed. The draft going down the feed tube is essential to proper operation. There are published solutions to most all problems with a RMH, depending on the setup. As mentioned elsewhere, cutting down the barrel was exactly the wrong solution - the heat riser should have been extended. The taller the riser, the better the draft it makes. In short, do not depend on this video alone for planning your own installation.

@Alain M co2 denser than oxygen so top venting not helpful. Hypoxia not likely because just opening the door would mix air to some degree and allow escape of CO2. But then again, if someone decided to sleep in their with no ventilation or mixing of air (like a fan) it could be bad. Hemp growing and processing warehouse like buildings are required to have fans.

It burns more efficiently with less pollution. In traditional wood stoves you have a lot of loss out the chimney. In the rocket mass heater, the rocks and clay absorb virtually all the heat.
@Intertanker8 жыл бұрын
I would suggest they have this heat plant outside of the house, and then use it for heating water, which again could be circulated in and out of the house. But that is also because I hate (for a while; short while, -;) ) the breathing of carbon monoxide.

My first question is, Why was the chubby Dude in the corner blocking the top of the exhaust chimney. Some might say He was monitoring the temperature, but a couple fingers would do that. He was trying to block the flue flow. Then the biggest question is, We are not venting the smoke out of the greenhouse ??? The construction was weak but I don't think any of these people burn wood for heat. Why have a chimney at all if We can just let the smoke fill the room ??? Again, What was the Fat guy doing covering the chimney with His hand ?

do not build this way... did you see the bit of smoke still filling the room... can you say, C02, your dead. at least put the opening in frt of where you load the wood and put that opening (vent) at a 45* angle pointed down to prevent the smoke from raising. and where you load your wood make it higher and make a lid to cover to help prevent smoke (C02) from raising and filling the room..
@hebekiah36237 жыл бұрын

If you run up and back the bench and put the chimney riser touching the barrel, it will re-heat the gasses before leaving the building and increase the suction "draft" 5 fold. But you must insulate between the chimney and where it leaves the building.
