I keep coming back to this incredible amazing video.. From start to finish I can sit down and watch this over and over again.. God and the goddess must be telling me something like I need to start in on the Rocket Stove Mass Heater on this old abandoned homestead. There's so much scrap metal, fire bricks and more that I can use for this very project. God is good ❤️🫂💪

One of the best video's on RMH s I've seen. I'm amazed at the weight of material going on top of the pipes. Wanted to see what would sit on the tiles between the drum nd d wall. Wondered was the drum easy to lift off for cleaning. Beautiful job!

The barrel is permanent, however there are several cleanouts that let me Vacuum out the pipes and the barrel. The shelf behind the barrel is where I put a fan during the winter to blow air around the barrel to warm the shop faster. Hope that helps Thanks for watching.

2 inches or a tad less from top of heat riser to the top of the barrel. If you have too big of a gap it won't work. Yes, it's a tight space.

If anyone is new to this, place the barrel only 1.5 to 2 inches above the riser with equal space on all sides.... Making more space between the riser top, and the barrel......hurts the system. Of course, no closer or you'll choke it off.

i plan on visiting some very cold climes next month. I've been psyching up watching time lapse blizzard videos and discovered rocket stove applications! I can't believe the temperatures generated by mass heaters. While some DIYers are looking for the ultimate hi -tech riser insulator, your build is the best I've seen. Where I'm from, we say "Aloha!"

I’m just curious, how exactly do you clean out the ashes in this heater? I don’t see any ash clean out points. Wanting to build one of these myself and just trying to learn more about them.

The Clean out is on the end of the bench. I can slide a shop vac hose back into either of the bench tubes and vac them out.

Been wondering. Why is the riser section necessary? Why can't you go straight into the Mass material then flue?

Without the heat riser it would not draw the down draft through the burn tunnel, which would mean it would smoke back into the room. The riser heats up impro ing the draw ie heat rises causing the draw.

How can you clean the long pipe extension? They are bound to accumulate soot and dust over time.

There is a clean out on the end of the bench from there I can stick a shop vac hose in and vac out anything that is there.

There is a clean out on the end of the bench. It can be opened and a shop vac hose can be inserted and vac up any ash that may be present. When I started to do it this year before winter began I got about 1 cup of ash. These things really do burn more efficiently than most people realize. As far as the burn box ash in there I scoop out with a fireplace shovel I shortened and bent into an "L" shape.

Could you use poured concrete instead of cob? It's hard to get the materials for cob where I live. If so, would I add more, larger aggregate?

It is hard to get Clay, Sand, and water? That is unusual. In this particular application I would not recommend concrete. Concrete retains moisture for too long and can explode when high heat is applied.

Is mixing the straw with it called "stray hay plaster" ? I was curious why you were mixing it I found some "stray hay plaster" which I read about, I guess the straw helps it stay together almost like rebar for concrete cracking curious if there's another reason though, thanks for the video!

It's called cobb (or cob) and it doesn't burn, hardly cracks, and holds together forever. The straw gives it tensile strength.

SPLENDID! So many wonderful things i,ve learned from this video!I have built one and just at 1 meter distance from it I have a terracotta wood stove. Do you think that I cut introduce the exhaust tube into it instead of building a heat mass? In this case the terracotta will be the mass heater and then the smoke will go out of the chimney.The terracotta stove is 1.50m high, 60cm large and 35 cm width.I would be very grateful if you could answer my question. The music on this video is from Epidemic sound. There are several different groups used in this video so not sure which song you are referring too. All of it is pretty good. Epidemic is a music library for creators, once you buy a membership you can use any music in their library for any video you make.

There is a clean out in the end of the bench, open it and you can reach down both pipes to the manifold and the chimney. And no the dogs were laying down the tiles only get to about 100 degrees.

That was clay slip. Once the brick is encased in cob it's very solid.

You know you dont need to spend money on pipes inside the mass section .Just make it hollow with a couple of inspection points
