An update would have been great! I'm curious! What happened? How do you load it?

Just a couple of comments. Rather than put the outgas pipe through the lid it would be better situated near the top of the barrel itself. This way you don't have to undo it each time you load/unload. More important is the need to insulate the outside and the top of the barrel to contain the heat. No insulation will result in too much heat loss and the interior temperature will not be sustained to cook the wood into charcoal. This has the potential to be a very efficient method of making charcoal when insulated. I would love to hear how it did as is...we learn more from our failures than successes. Thanks for your effort. Is there a video you recommend watching to build one? I want to incorporate biiochar in my farm in Costa Rica

Not sure if you guys cares but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf for the last few days =)

Seems to be good design, but what's the result of application ?

Well, did it work?

the lid would have buckled and the wood gas ignites and flames would start the charcoal burning and you'd be left with a drum with a little ash inside of it.

If you're going to make a video make a whole video. We wanted to see how all your hard work ended up.

Do you have the rest of this build?

DONT BUILD THIS! It most definitely can explode. The wood and some air are sealed in the drum. As soon as the wood starts to out gas, the air/fuel mixture will travel down the fuse, I mean pipe and ignite. It would not be an insignificant explosion! Seriously, would you put a propane/air mixture in that drum and fire this up? Same thing as wood, just takes longer. I hope everyone, including the dog, are okay.

look like he wont come back to tell us what was the result. too bad. But I am pretty sure it was not a good result. If the burning of the wood made it to produce wood gases , I am pretty sure the pressur builded up to a point where the baril broke open. there was not enough vent size to release those gas and that is if it even started to heat up enough cause the burning chamber was pretty small the grill was to high and the wood he must have feed would just keep burning in the chimney.

Well that wasted our time. His for over engineering and finding it didn't work any better than a drum and a smaller container fire. Mine for watching it and expecting to see what happened. anyway, good luck with your project.
