Building a roll cage for the XJ! Part 1

Hey what’s up everybody! I used the WelderD hybrid cage kit for my XJ due to it having a lot more tubing and bracing to it internally and externally compared to other brands. Was in a hurry trying to get it done before our K2 trip so I didn’t quite get everything done that I wanted to. Super happy with how it’s turned out but still have some stuff to add/change so stay tuned for part 2 of my cage install!

lol I used to bring the baby out in the garage with me at night when she didn't want to sleep and the wife was trying to sleep and I wanted to work on the jeeps. My plan is to install a cage in a couple years for when I take the kids offroading. thanks for the video.

It's great having them out there with me! My son has always helped out since he was around 1 yr old and he loves all the rock crawling stuff and building/modifying things. He's about to be 5 and it's only gonna get more fun/expensive from here! Then it's my little girl's turn 😂

I've been super happy with the cage for sure! The top rail has already saved the roof/doors of my jeep a few times from sliding through some of the trails in the canyons we wheel around here lol

It’s a company called Welder D, it’s an awesome cage for a reasonable price! Www.WelderD.com and was a very quick turn around as well. Travis the owner had great communication through the process

How top heavy does it make the jeep?

Honestly I haven’t really been able to tell any difference from being off camber before the cage to now. I’m sure it’s more so now than before but feel like everything still feels really balanced and stable without any suspension modifications or anything

Is that DOM?

Yes it’s DOM. There may be a couple of small pieces that are not but the main cage for sure is all 1.75 .120 wall

Do you lose the back seat? If so do you know anyone that has a roll cage for an xj that keeps the back seat. I need it for the kids.

Definitely did not lose the back seat! Plenty of room for car seat and adults still. Really didn’t kill as much space in the back seat area as what I figured it would’ve. I take my 4yr old son all the time with me and other family as well. Planning on still coming out with another video to show more of the finished install just haven’t had time to make it yet. You can watch the video of K2 I have up and I believe there is a few shots that show a little bit of the room that’s still back there
