That is totally awesome. If I wasn't so damn old I'd start one myself. I have the land and the trees for it. The trees need to be thinned any way in a couple of spots and that would be a great use for them.

My barn, in Eastern Ontario, is an old stacklog structure--short logs with concrete. Six horses will warm it up by 20 degrees F in very cold winter weather, and it stays wonderfully cool and bug-free in our summer heat waves. It's easy to do spot repairs. A woman up north made a wonderful curving house of stacklog with concrete, and vermiculite in the wall centre. She said it was great for her because she could work alone, no great strength was needed aside from laying the roof beams.

A couple of answers on construction - the ends of the posts are charred in a fire to about 20 cm above ground level. These are chestnut posts here so they should last 30 years or more. Sometimes I also paint molten bitumen onto the post feet as well. The yellow pipe is a drainage pipe which goes under the polyfelt and is taped to the plastic/rubber roof membrane. It collects excess rainwater and channels it to one point on the eaves where it could be collected for watering etc.

I like it. Everyone working together. Why can't the whole world be like your small group of friends. John Fogerty sings " don't you wish it was true " Great job.

In the beginning of construction, it reminded me of Stongehenge. At the end, it looks like a very fancy Yurt. The roof is my favorite part. I guess that is because growing up our garage had grass growing on its roof as designed by the architect. Oh, memories! That was a very interesting video. Thanks.

That was awesome! And the fellowship of building together like that - interesting workshop you all had. I had some similar experiences with three of my rustic homes I built.

Thanks for sharing that. You one of these wonderful helpers who set the people free. I also loved your book - good inspirations :-) We going to built several Houses like that in Czech (near the German border). In Czech Cordwood has an old tradition. It´s very much easier to get a permission than in Germany.

Very interesting. I just road my bicycle from France to Germany last year and could see the Forschwald woods. In Pennsylvania, USA, I think I can just go build such a house back in my woods, but not as a permanent dwelling I could sell.

I love seeing things like this. I would personally love to build a larger version myself, with a bit more of a modern/futuristic take on it by mixing in steel and plaster elements for the walls and ceiling, to reinforce it, working electricity and water, etc, as well as a stone and/or wood floor. Mixing the very old with forward thinking can result in some absolutely amazing things.

Yellow pipe is a drainage pipe to take surplus rainwater to one location on the eaves. We char the bottoms of the posts to harden them and help prevent rot. Usually I also paint on molten pitch to the bottom metre of each post.
