Yes bitumen is good. We have a keg of it . We break bits off and melt them in a pan and paint it on before it sets again. The other thing to do is make your henge frm arches with diagonal bracing built in, then stand the posts on stone blocks. It is the more modern method ( since the middle ages).

Hi, I'm curious about the spiral rafter layout: I would have thought that having all the beams meet at a single point and lean against each other, rather than a spiral where i'd expect support to be relying on a shearing join between the beams. So my question is; Is there any structural advantage to the spiralling of the rafters or is it just a simple (and aesthetic) answer to wanting a hole in the top of the roof for light or smoke one way or the other? Great build btw :)

Hey!! Your video is very inspirational :) I would love to build one in New-Brunswick, Canada. I wonder how this would hold against our winters....I was also wondering, is there any books that would teach me how to build this kind of house step by step??? Thank you!

Inspiring, beautiful... love it! We have so much council red tape here in Australia I doubt we could get away with such an unconventional build... should be allowed to build what you want on your own property I reckon, bloody bureaucrats : (

This roundhouse now has a wooden door and fancy glass skylight. Thanks for offers to subscribe etc but I won't do anything about them. In time I get to answer questions on technical stuff, or you could visit my website thatroundhouse.info for more info. Tony.

Is the purpose of burning the ends to allow you to use the wood immediately after it's cut rather than waiting for it to dry?
@RickBrowntrombonist

Mark Gailmor - Burning the ends is a way of waterproofing the wood before burying the ends. Thick plastic bags would also work.

is it possible to make a reciprocal roof frame over a rectangular structure? i tried to make a scale model work, but with each piece of wood I add, it just gets higher and higher ! I tried different approaches, but nothing seems to work. Suggestions, anybody?

Si, perroperro, pero las casas construidas en madera tienen carbon para muchos anos, pues estan una solucion. Tambien hay arboles en esta sasa que crecen todavia. Mira mi video 'Coppicing'.
