A little Super Power we all have and you doing fine. I built one, Welding it and also planning a rebuild.Like the mount onto your anvii will copy that Sir. I used one piece of duck tape to shim many of my builds and yes it burns up but the welds holds before it's burns and goes making the tape fall or pull off easily. Thanks Daniel Moss for your teaching me and many. Next time you are in The Quad State Roundup here in Ohio USA. I hope to meet you Sir and shake your hand Sir.

Nice Dan, just weld a little lug on the front of the top plate and you can then nudge it up enough (with a gloved hand) to get the job underneath. Even if the hammer does drop, it can’t get your fingers.

I have been thinking of making a guillotine tool after seeing them used on youtube ,But your design runs rings around anything i have seen so far .I will be using it at the anvil only as i don't own a power hammer . so thanks Daniel and stay safe man cheers.

Hey Douglas I know you say this runs rings around any other guillotine tool you have seen before and yes I do think it is a good tool. However before you start fabricating your own I suggest you look at this guillotine tool that I made in my workshop from scrap materials that I believe is as good or better when it comes to design and full functionality. Check it out on my channel @ Forge Wright : Part 1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ony5gmujepd6e7s and Part 2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3q9fX2og9abgs0 and if you do like the tool feel free to use the design and please recommend it and the channel to anyone you feel might like to make one the same. Cheers from Forge Wright

I thought you were going to make a fabricator's type of guillotine, I thought that wasn’t too much of a challenge for a blacksmith of your calibre. I'm not the best clued up when it comes to blacksmithing...or any metalwork for that matter. I was really impressed when you were doing something different. I was even more impressed when I saw it in operation. I hope these times aren’t having too much of a long term impact on your business, there’s nothing better than to see a hard working, enterprising young person. Take care and don’t take too many risks. Don’t be hard on yourself, sometimes life happens, I hope things get better for you.

Hope you are keeping safe Dan if you put a spring each side of the bottom die then that would lift the top die back up after each strike keeping fingers safe 😊

Thanks heaps for making this mate! I'll be adding some very weak captive springs to each side seated in shallow holes. Just to help lift it back up between blows. Hoping I won't loose too much energy to the spring but also hoping to use it in the forging press.

Staying with recycled materials a couple of heavy valve springs to act like die springs and a bar on the top tool with round bar to keep the springs in line. Love the videos.

Love that guillotine tool. With that top part of the tool while under the power hammer, what about welding a bit of square on it facing you so when you want to get it out, use a pair of tongs instead of your hand going in there. Just a thought Dan. Well done.
@ianlowe4666
@ianlowe4666 4 жыл бұрын
Forget the spring suggestions Dan, too much additional work and there's potential for them to launch out your top die under a power hammer. Drill a hole in the top die and make a handled spike with a tapered point. Provided the handle length brings your hand out of the danger zone you're golden. Nice take on the hand powered version :)

You've probably sorted it by now but a short length of round bar (say 1") welded perpendicular to the top die would give you a small handle to lift it with while keeping your hand out of harm's way.

Nice build, proof of concept open to adjustments and improvements. I like the idea and the design. Will be interested in how you work around the die lift issue be it peg and ting or spring hold open or some combination of these 🙏 Blessings sir please stay healthy and somewhat sane lol Crawford out ⚒️🧙‍♂️

Just make a sharpe ended pry bar that you can push into the gap to lift the top die (? Fuller?). You could also plan ahead and stuff something else in there before removing your work piece........ I think the pry bar is the easiest solution. I am thinking of an idea for a foot peddle idea that would lift the die....... top tool?....... for you (please can somebody please tell me what the top one would be called?!?!?). If you message me I can try to explain the peddle idea. I think I'd confuse to many people with a long and rambling discription LOL On the whole Corona virus bit, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for still trying to get videos out. People on the front line and key workers are getting so much praise at the moment (they definitely deserve it), but I think people who in entertainment/news etc., really need a load of praise too. It's people, like you, who are going that extra mile (where it's safe to do so) to give us something to do/watch while we are all in lockdown. Thank you for all you do. I hope you and your family stay safe during this awful time 👍

Glen Everett Glen hi, a simple answer that makes sense to me to name the top die would be the striker die and the lower one the anvil die! Probably not correct terminology but seems to fit.

Light spring maybe? Yes, this means it generally 'held open' and not in contact... But I don't think the power hammer much cares - it will simply be driving it to some solid resistance.

Couple of small coil springs in the bottom of the rails between the two dies ? Shouldn't lose much in the way of hitting force (when using with a hammer manually), but should be enough to raise the top fuller between strokes ?

Just a note, Dan. SCRAP is different that SCRAPE. Perhaps not in the UK but maybe it was just a mistake when you typed it, too! Scrap being thrown away stuff, ie, old leaf springs and other iron only a Blacksmith or tinkerer would be interested in and scrape being something you might do going through a tight spot that SCRAPES a layer of skin off your arm! Maybe that's clear as mud or maybe you got my meaning! No, I'm not a spelling Nazi but I think your viewers will know the difference and wonder! Now that I look at the title of the video ON the video and the title UNDER it, I KNOW you know the difference but, this is already typed and I'm too lazy to delete it! Thanks! Sorry for being a nit picker!
