Those tanks are usually surrounded by a low wall, or sit within a surrounding bank of earth, called a 'bund'. Both are there in case of leaks, so that the fuel oil/Diesel, etc., can be contained, and pumped out easily. No drains, as the oil could contaminate water supplies. For the last 25 years of his working life, my dad worked at a large dockside oil terminal. I got to know the site well, and all tanks were situated in bunds. Remember, a tiny amount of oil can go an awfully long way.

Lovely to be able to watch some great modelling on Boxing Day! Now, I do get worried when I see gaps in the sleepers... You will fill them in, won't you...? Thanks for letting us see you at work. You have a nice style.

That's the same kit as I'm building for my shunting layout. Nicely made. I know what you mean about the tank section alignment though. Lots of filling and sanding, but a good kit. One thing that I found I needed to add were pipes from the middle of the tank discharge pipework to the ground and from the ground to the tank filling pipework. As an engineer it annoyed me that there was a pipe running from the front of one tank to the front of the other tank with two valves in it but for nowhere for the fuel to flow to! I added a pipe from the bottom of the pipe to the ground which one can imagine runs buried to connect to the fuel outlet standpipes. I added similar pipes for the tank filling side of things. I've also added extra details like tank breathers and of course a bund wall. I'm enjoying watching this series as I'm working on my layout at the same time albeit much more slowly.

First Comment. Nice. Anyways, what I really would like to see is Locomotives operating in the shunting yard.

Maybe it is different in the UK. but in Canada any Fuel tank I've seen is white. I think it is to stop them getting hot in the sunshine and expanding the fuel so it won't overflow.
