Nick M0NTV will take us through a scratch-build of a receiver that you can make yourself. He’ll explain how it works, the building blocks, how to make it and show you the finished direct conversion receiver. So warm your soldering irons up, and pull up a chair.

The thing I love the most about Nick's talk is how incredibly infectious his enthusiasm is! Since the talk, I've already bought toroids and a mixer chip.

_”Put your transistors in the right way around”?_ It matters? *Now you tell me!* The only kit I put together was a *_Heathkit_* (remember them? Are they still around?) dot matrix printer back in the 1980s. I assembled it, but couldn’t make it work. Finally, I brought it back to the store. The techs managed to get it working. The problem? A transistor or three put in backwards and the odd cold solder joint … *73 de AF6AS*

Thank-you! I really enjoyed this and was enthused enough to have a go. I couldn't find the PDFs Nick mentioned, I was expecting to find them here but am I looking in the wrong place please?

Maybe I’m just dumb but that’s far from easy lol

Hi Justin, thanks for your comment. Well if you just look at each building block on their own then it makes it easier. Also, if you scribble out the block diagram and have it Infront of you while Nick is explaining it, that will help too. Check out more of Nick's videos on his "Nick the Vic M0NTV" KZbin channel.

Thank you for the reply, I greatly enjoyed the video. I’m glad that I found it, I had planned on just building a crystal radio, making the tuned circuit for 40 meters, adding and amp flier and a bfo and thought that would be enough. Looks like there is much more to it

@@justinelliott3529 Hi Justin, glad you enjoyed the video. I think there is a difference between simple and easy! You are right to say that what I described is not easy - it is not. But the design is simple when compared to a single conversion Superhet or a phasing transceiver. But the thing about 'Building with Blocks' is that you can take a more complex design and break it down into simpler, bite-sized chunks. Anyway, I wish you every success for whatever you build. 73 Nick (M0NTV)
