Cool project Sam! There’s an easy way to figure out the run time for the appliances. The refrigerator is pulling 40 watts, and the battery capacity is about 1280 watt hours. So just divide 1280 by 40 and you get 32 hours of run time on a full battery. Also, your inverter might be a little beefy for that battery, but I would feel comfortable pulling up to 1000 watts continuously with that setup. So the cement mixer is no problem. Also would work great for cooking while camping, and a coffee pot! (For job sites too) I enjoyed this video! I like simple little projects like this. Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year my friend!

Good job Sam, well explained, as an electrician that system that you have is good for 12 volt lighting, 12 volt TV, small hand drills and small loads etc., and the fridge that you had it hooked up to but I would not be trying to run any heavy loads on it as you explained, too much current required, solar is good but it is is not the answer, Regards, Al

I really like my Noco charger. Suggest, get one of the many pack out rolling boxes with telescoping handle. If you need more room for electronics, you can stack the right size box on top. Easier to move around and the electronics are protected from shorts and the elements.

Love this.!! I have a few suggestions if you don’t mind. First, you can get another battery and run it in series for better output to your tools. Second. When attaching solar you should leave the controller turned off and attach the battery and panels last. Then power everything.!! Last I would highly recommenda waterproof container for everything. I built mine on one of those folding hand trucks with 3 batteries. I use standard boat batteries. I have lost a few inverters due to moisture. There are some solar controllers that have great displays with lots of info. PS. Mini water and wind turbines are getting good .!!!! Keep at it brutha. Happy holidays. 🎄⚡️❤️‍🔥

Morning Sam Can you try running your furnace off the battery box? I'm wondering how long it will last.
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff Күн бұрын
@mikereimer4279 Good morning! I am certain it would run our furnace. But considering the size and power draw, I'm pretty sure it would last less than one hour (total run time) a gas generator is more ideal for that 🤠👍

Having only a grid-dependant (vented) heat source, I'd like this too. I guess some math could help me get an idea.

The lead of a pencil will keep it from sparking when hooking up the inverter. Just hold the wire with the pencil in between for like 5 seconds then hook it up.

@ yes a resistor lets the energy pass through slower. You can also use an incandescent lightbulb.. or get a resistor.

Need a higher powered inverter for running those high demand motors like that chop saw, a circular saw would be the same way. the slower start up would have been a give away that you were pulling too many amps, surprised it didn't trip the inverter. You'd really want a 3,000 watt inverter or larger for those high demand devices. Yep, for just charging power tool batteries that 2,000 watt inverter is fine, but to run those high draw power tools you need a larger inverter and a larger AH battery overall. I've thought about something similar, but I'd just install some of those heavy duty quick connect cables to the truck battery and run them out the grill of the truck, and then wire an inverter to connect to those cables, much better solution than packing around that heavy battery LOL....now, if you maybe build that thing into one of the many wheeled tool boxes like the Packout box that has wheels and a carry handle that would be an awesome ideal solution, plus you could throw your power tool battery chargers on the box and be able to charge them too...with using something that size you could do dual batteries and give yourself more power to run a larger inverter too.

@@samsdoinstuff ... I agree, I would not want to run down the car battery by accident. Besides, not sure how big your front door is but I would have a hard time getting my car into the kitchen to run the coffee maker during a power outage. I think your solution is more portable.

Your inverter is high frequency, not meant for anything with an electric motor. Get a 2000 watt low frequency inverter. Itll handle that circular saw witg ease. The low frequency inverter will be heavy though.
