Nice build on your sof, looks like a Platt Monfort arrow 14. I REALLY enjoyed your time lapse of the build, best vid of the whole process on utube. I built his snowshoe 16 with modifications and enjoyed the process and the end result. Great job!

You have a keen eye! It is based on the arrow 14, with some modifications! glad you enjoyed, thanks! Jaap

Very beautiful. Didn't you use floorboards? What was the final weight? What modifications did you make and are you happy with them? Do you usually paddle it single blade? I am ready to start building also arrow 14 and love to read your feedback.

Nice work. Thanks for the video. I wondered if you knew the weight of the finished canoe? I assume it is just a one man canoe?
@jaapbolt87803 жыл бұрын
I weighed it quite a while ago, I believe it was around 12kg. It easily fits two persons!

Nice looking canoe. I imagine it is much easier to portage than fiberglass or royalex

Great job!! How much does it weigh? I am trying to decide between the Arrow 14 and Cape Falcon designs. Any thoughts? I like Cape Falcon but don't have the tools to make a laminated mortised gunnel.

1. What is the length of the whole hull? 2. What is the width? 3. How tall is it? I need the size and plan used to build the boat as yours because it's good.

Did you steam the ribs, or just cold-bent them?
@jaapbolt87804 жыл бұрын
They are steam bent.

nice build. I wanted to make myself one aswell but I don't have the advanced tools like other videos. your build style seems to fit my workshop. did you use steam bending or not?
@jaapbolt87806 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah you need only very basic tools if you're a bit handy with them. I did do some steam bending for the ribs, which are only 5mm thick. I bet you could also bend them with a heatgun, especially when kept under water for an hour or two prior to bending. Good luck!

@@jaapbolt8780 thank you for the reply. I think will build a steam chamber out of plastic pipe. what shape or mold did you bent the ribs on? just freestyle or is there any templates for them aswell?
@jaapbolt87806 жыл бұрын
@@MrUltralove No problem! I also just used a pvc pipe with an old kettle underneath and an old towel on top, works absolutely fine. I bent them inside the frame which I already build on the mold, as you can see from 1:00. On the left is the pvc pipe and I quickly bend the ribs while securing them in place with tiewraps.

@@jaapbolt8780 Got you. Nicely humidated pieces adapt the form inside the frame I guess. I can't wait to start! I will only be using chestnut material for the frame because that is what I have in hand, but it has a nice grain. Won't be a huge problem I guess...
@MrUltralove6 жыл бұрын
@@jaapbolt8780 So you are saying they take the shape of the frame when you well-moisturize them. I am going to use chestnut for this project because it is what I have in hand now. It has a nice straight grain but what would you think about bending ability of chestnut?

Did you mortise the stringers into the gunnels? It's a nice shape
@jaapbolt87806 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew, do you mean the ribs in the gunnels? In that case no, they are just glued between an inner and outer gunnel.

Nice, What did you use as a skin, what was the coating, and did you use tape to attach the skin to the canoe at he rim. I'm rebuilding a single person canoe with a canvas skin painted green.
@jaapbolt87806 жыл бұрын
The materials are added to the description! I used a regular contact glue, which I'll not bother to do again. I found out tape is much more efficient. Good luck, sounds cool!
