I remember buying a couple of those units as inexpensive off-the-shelf PCs for clients… perfect for a 2022 sleeper. Happy to see you were able to get the components to fit, HP / Compaq (and others) use so many customizations to their components and cases it was often near impossible just to replace the power supply with even a basic ATX unit.

I was surprised the front panel fit as well as it did. what do you do?
@ChristianBehnke3 жыл бұрын
@@AliOxen Was that a rhetorical "what do you do" as in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , or were you asking what I do? lol
@AliOxen3 жыл бұрын
😂 I see now exactly how that reads lol. No, not rhetorical. You mentioned clients so I meant, as a profession, what is it that you do or did?

@@AliOxen No worries, exactly why I asked! I used to run my own business doing small business / home user IT support, so plenty of experience in computer assembly, troubleshooting, etc. While I now work for an electronics manufacturer, I still have a passion for PC builds (finally built myself a new ITX machine in 2019/2020), and those like yourself who are doing creative things! I will note that I've been inspired by some of your 3D printing uses, and I finally ordered one so I can drop the excuses. lol

I think I'm going to finally do a sleeper build, got a few old case options. I love these kind of builds.

I think this is probably the BEST LOOKING consumer PC case, I just love the glossy black front of it, and the blue power light on the side. I actually had one of these Compaq Presarios at home when I was in 6th Grade back in late-2015, and I used this Compaq all the way up to 2018!! It ran Windows Vista, but I used XP on it, then upgraded it to Vista in 2016, and then Windows 7 in early-2018, and used it until the end of the year, until it was replaced. And TBH, using Windows Vista isn’t as bad as many people say it is! It’s actually one of my favorite Windows OSs, along with Windows 7!! I just love the Aero UI!! And I really love the glossy finishes Desktop PCs and Laptops used in the Late-2000’s/Early-2010’s!! Looks so futuristic, unlike the bland and boring flat designs in PCs nowadays.

This was my childhood pc and my first "gaming" system. So nice to see someone else working with the sleeper im planning to build before i do, for reference. Does the cd drive still work/front usb? Great video

a proper sleeper build starts with a beige case that has some yellowing patina due to age

nice build, but the AIO tubes should go at the bottom, not at the top. the air bubbles always stay on the top, if they are sucked into the pump they will damage it in the long run

Hello! I was wondering would a microATX fit because, I have a build in the works using the exact same model case.
@zeroturn70912 жыл бұрын
It should work, the PC likely had an mATX board originally.
@synthwaved56232 жыл бұрын
@@zeroturn7091 I kind of knew I just thought it was a odd choice to use a itx but, i'd assume hes just using what he already has which is fair

I haven't tested it outright but that original OEM board looked to be similar to the M-atx form factor, I just chose ITX because I wanted more space inside the case

For mounting the front fan did you use zip ties? Or did you cut a hole on the case?

I remember turning down an "old-style" AMD HP computer that had Windows 10 and 4 GB of RAM inside. But, it was too new, and I insisted on the chubby one, with low ram, and no HDD. When I say "too new," that means it's not beige.

Appreciate what you did this was my first pc and I love it that’s why I wanted to upgrade it from inside to increase performance and keep the old case Wanted to ask you few questions 1.What’s the psu size you used to replace the old one 2. Fan sizes front and back 3. Front io power switch there are only 6 wires in that how do you plug it in 8 wire setup of new mother boards
@GreenMachineXXII2 жыл бұрын
How did you wire the power button and power led the different colored wires confuse me? Like yellow and white are the hdd, blue and green are the power led, and black and red are power but which is + and -🙃🤣 at least on mine 🤔
@AliOxen2 жыл бұрын
I found that most times there are indicators on the terminals that say power or hdd, so that was the case with this one. If you trace the wires back to the button or lights, you can figure out which set is for what, regardless of the colors though

You can make a sleeper out of basically any case, just find a motherboard that fits and go to town! Looking at the case it seems to be similar to this with it being a BTX style case but made to fit a ATX motherboard so yes you can turn it into a sleeper!
