regarding the wake comment at the end. What you've made is effectively a really bad wakeless launch. The idea is that the wakes from each hull cancel out so that the boat can keep up with rowing shells without waking them out. Try messing with how far apart the hulls are to try to get more of the destructive interference.

Hello, nerd here Those flexible shafts are meant more for speedboats, the rear solid bit is meant to go in a strut/stinger with 2 different inner diameters, then it won't fall out. The square part should fit loosely in the solid shaft as the flex shaft contracts under torsion. The Teflon can be cut longer than the brass shaft, then folded over and locked in place with a zip-tie. They should spin the right way as they may leak and also as they can break if spun the wrong way, normally they don't leak when the boat is on plane A solid shaft with ballbearings and universal joint would be the way to go Other than that, awesome build!!! I don't understand any of this autonomous telemetry stuff but these vids makes me want to learn it, seen all your builds Best regards

Very nice video. One piece of advise: Do NOT tin (solder) the tips of the wires that goes into the screw terminal. Over time the solder will float (think glacier) under the force of the screw and the connection will loosen up.

This series has me so amped up! It was an instant click when it hit my alerts. You need little splash fins attached to the side of the hulls to minimize, well, splash. They are commonly found on pontoon boats. Also, can you attach a pinwheel to the front of your kayak? No reason other than for fun.

I reccomend using cotton flocks and microballons as additives for epoxy when you want to glue stuff in place. Adding talcum powder/baby powder to epoxy makes it easy to sand by the way. That would have been helpful for the last vid. My go to for filling/sanding is epoxy + baby powder + microballoons + thixotropic agent

You could add a "solar barge" behind the tugboat, to have them higher up. (Maybe some yellow floating device could be repurposed for that, as it would mostly be hidden under the panels.) You could even have a fixed linkage between the tugboat and the solar barge, from which you could extract mechanical energy.

It's somewhat why 99% isopropyl alcohol will instantly break the bond of hot glue on most surfaces. The water or alcohol gets between the surfaces. Water just takes longer. Or in the case of wood, gets absorbed and swells the fibres, breaking/weakening the bond. Keep it dry and hot glue will tear wood fibres apart before the bond let's go.

Why though? It really normally isnt that hard to make it leak-proof, he is making it a bit hard for himself, but that is to be expected as a beginner in this field. Better to get the lower center of gravity and slightly better effieciency of the placement he got if you ask me. But yeah, with the solar panels mounted, the center of gravity benefit is relatively minuscule, for sure.

@@GoldenCroc I'm not saying it's totally necessary, but if he intends to sail long range missions, which he is, it would be wise to design the hulls in such a way that they are naturally watertight. To me, this far outweighs any COG considerations, especially given the weight of the craft.

@@richardhallyburton Well, I fully agree with everything you wrote. Also, a very small automatic bilge pump in each hull can be a literal life saver, he should get one of those. Oh, and fill unused space with styrofoam so it is unsinkable. Heres a thing for ya I learned from Adam Savage. He uses CA glue (superglue) and baking soda. Do some small tacks with the superglue then sprinkle baking soda on the glue. It causes it to set up faster and has something else to grab too. Ruffing up the area also helps too. Ive used this to fix pesky ABS parts that have broke. Works really well for structural things like the motor brackets

Impressive harmony! I love the tune. Great video and thanks for sharing the ups *and downs* with us. Good to see what works and doesn't, saving time, money, and effort. More appreciated than you know.

Cool idea. Solar tug feeling power to a drone with cord. Drone that can stay in air 24/7

A couple trolling motors and a little 2 man bass raider with the panels floating behind or overhead canopy style would be the ticket

Nice video, very ingenious project! I sea kayaked the coast of Alaska for years in an 18 foot fiberglass sea kayak for weeks at a time in the 80's and 90's. I seriously considered installing the power system from a large 1/4 scale boat in it to help with long open water crossings especially against a stiff head wind, I was planning to use a 50cc water cooled 2 cycle motor for large RC boats. I figured that should be plenty of power to push me along. This was before the electric option was very practical. Thanks for the video!

I recently found this channel and the waypoint mission with the banana slug where you get your truck stuck is one of my favorite videos. When I heard the lyrics that the banana slug was one of the most hated ships that ever was, I was indignant. Lol. I want a shirt with a picture of the banana slug and text that says "The most hated ship that ever was" with hated crossed out and loved written over it!

If you mount your motors so the shaft exits the sleeve above the water-line, you won't have to worry nearly as much about water intrusion, but you'd need a longer shaft, or you'd have to make it flex.

Just a suggestion to the design. Try adding an underwater spoiler maybe across the whole stern, but at least little ones on each hull. It will help with the nose bobing and gain some efficiency
