As a speedrunner this was a favorite in HL, flying around the levels due to the push it gives you when you fire it

I saw insane videos about how it's been used in speedruns, and in Half life deathmatch, where (as i remember) the damage were reduced, but the kickback remained hard.

@@BitBoxProps They sadly removed the knockback in the 25 years anniversary version :( But they still left it in the deathmatch, they knew how fun it was to play around with it (also you can play the campaign through servers and the knockback is still insane)

I like to think that the Tau cannon was the result of extreme efficiency studies and is 'actually powered by the 3 AA Batteries, and that all AA batteries and electrical power are similarly capable in their output only all of our stuff is extremely inefficiently designed.

The batteries may have run some of the basic electronic components, but don't forget that the ammo of this weapon is depleted uranium-235 :)

I really like your style of video and attention to detail on props. If I had to make a request, its sorta niche but with a resurgence from VGA, I would like to see a remake of a turok weapon, specifically turok 1 with either the chronocepter, fusion cannon, or alien weapon.

Thank you! I gont many request earlier from Turok props, so I probably will do at least one. To be honest, back in the days I did not like the Turok games, I have no idea why. But now I plan to play and finish Turok 1-2 before I build any prop, to have a bit more personal connection to it. Usually this motivates me to make these builds.

@BitBoxProps Nightdive did a remaster for pc for all 3 and on steam so I'd say go for it! And that's fair. For me, it was the vibe and visuals. If you want more story, I'd do 2 or 3, I only suggested 1 cause it's the first and what I remember the most.

Wow this is a fantastic prop! I remember playing deathmatch with this thing and absolutely dominating matches. Applause man! the parts looked great and so did the final product. So you made the Tau cannon and the Zero Point Energy Manipulator, so is the Quantum Destabilizer next? it would be so cool to see you make one with all this experience now! I haven't seen a single gluon prop yet so it would be really impressive to see how you could do it. maybe it could also function as a water gun or something lol. I did think about a prototype with a little screen at the front, and there is enough space in the backpack for a majority of components. The levers and stuff would be cool to have manipulated and maybe like a blue laser or powerful led to look like the beam. There is definitely a lot of capability with something like that

It's unfortunate that Valve had to restart HL1 during development because there are many things that could have used another art pass. The gauss gun originally was two-handed with Gordon's left hand holding a handle that was sticking awkwardly out the side of it. They probably tried animating a more traditional foregrip but didn't like the results, maybe because Gordon's arm was too close to the spinning part? Also, I've always loved the look of the translocator from UT99. I once had a toy that was almost like it, long, long ago.

The general shape and position of that handle were pretty weird. Maybe they had no good idea of how to do it properly, so they just made a (oddly) one handed weapon of it.

Holding mouse1 to just immediately kill everything with infinite ammo was extremely uninteresting from a mechanical standpoint and it got old incredibly fast as a result. A very poor attempt at reinventing the supercharged gravity gun sequence, which had way more actual gameplay attached to it. Instead of just holding mouse1 to immediately gib enemies, it was built around physics and featured all kinds of different things you could with the enemy ragdolls - such as using them as weapons or flinging them into environmental hazards.

Weird idea, but i wonder if connecting a capacitor in series with the motor would enable a longer "ramp up" to the sleed then attaching a camera flash bulb in parallel to the circuit to slow the rotation and also make use of the power.
