I always assumed the marks on the core were just refractions from the bumpy surface. Like an uncut diamond. The lines around the castling were just a result of a lazy UV map that didn't account for the geometry.

Really good! I've always wanted to make my own, but make it lighter with Foam and such. And I was thinking, The Xen crystal in the Gravity gun, the texture reminds me of tinfoil. Like, scrunch up tinfoil and make it orange with this design. But this is very nice.

I'm planning to pour it from a clear resin, with some orange pigment. Perhaps that would look more like a crystal! But I recommend you to build one as per your specs, it's a real fun of a project!

@@BitBoxProps I would! It's sounds like a good project. I've been wanting to make it out of Foam since I don't have a 3D printer and that it's more lighter when it's Foam. All I need is the measurement for the pieces so I can use a Ruler for the Foam. It's a good project though.

the only major issue is the very strange paint pattern on the crystal container. overall this looks very fucking good, i like the rust.

From fps view, it looks quite good, but as a showcase model, I'm not 100% satisfied with the look.I made the cristal detachable, so I planned to make a better one later :)

@@BitBoxProps Nice, I am excited to see your ideas! I have thought about it and i would like to share mine. If you are having trouble incorporating function into the design, I have though out the idea of a water tank in the backpack, with the pressurized hose running to the gun, to look like the beam coming out without using any lasers or dangerous stuff. Besides, it would make an awesome water gun and you might even be able to illuminate the water with led's or a weak blue laser. the handle on the gun could be used to switch streams and the screen can be used to display info. The screen would be a pretty fun little bit to code. and of course the backpack, hose and gun itself will look great with your paintjobs and realism applied

The grenade launcher from bioshock has been on my mind lately. Also BFG 9000 from classic Doom but i think it is too hard to make weapon based on two images.

Yea scaling video game props is a fun process... In the end I used an AR15 grip to scale my AR2 prop.

The initial step on my scalig process, that the grip I made for the Flak cannon perfectly fits in my hand. That can be used on any of my models as a reference :)

I've got a bit of things about this video I'd like to say First is that it's absolutely wild that you're only at 922 subscribers with the quality of your work. Second is that I've got a few favorite weapons from video games and other media. The Blundergat from Blood/Mob Of The Dead, The Magnum from Combat Evolved, The Sniper from Halo 3, everything from Team Fortress 2, Every sword from the Devil May Cry series and I'll even include the reboot swords as well because their designs really aren't half bad, every single beam katana from the No More Heroes series, and the sword Future Trunks uses Third is Excellent job on the final outcome

I would happily share if I could. During the 3d modeling, I printed some part, then adjusted the model, then printed again, and so on. I stopped counting the cost of the filament, the paints, and the working hours. Probably as a self defense for my mental health :)

For me you struck the perfect balance of the classic shapes with some smoothing of the rougher looks of older PC models. Some people stray too far into polygonal face-for-face recreation especially on game asset prints or move too far away from the original design. Looks awesome!

Thanks! I've been trying to be as close to the original as possible, changing a few small things to be a bit more ergonomic, or convenient to "use". The Neca made replica had even more additional details, which are basically off the screen. I've been curious, if they're just "filled the gaps", or had some original design docs from Valve.
