Loved it start to finish especially the insight into the mindset behind it. You're a man of many talents both boards and videos Also love that you squeezed a Concave deck in there too. Some Concave under that front foot affords a little more travel in the back leg and I feel like there's a little more rail stability from the front foot on big cutbacks..... though I wouldn't know what stable cutbacks feels like
@Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. The concave on the deck felt so nice under arm. Think I’ll add it to my next personal. And rail / finger channels for some grip. 🤘
@ManOfSauce2 жыл бұрын
@@Shrednaught very cool. Never seen the finger grabs in the flesh it's gotta help with blending in rails to the deck. I'd love to do a comparison between 2 identical stringerless boards 1 with and 1 without just to see how much it manipulates the flex characteristics. I think there is a guy called stretch that uses them for that, I remember seeing Nathan fletcher riding one somewhere

Yup stretch does them. So did Vulcan when he was shaping. I’m pretty curious to see the differences so I might make an asym with different length channels each side

How do you measure rocker with that straight edge? does the board or the straight edge need to be level or?
@Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
Lay your straight edge along the board and measure from the blank to the straight edge. Should give you your number. No doesn’t need to be level as it’s all relative to the blank.
@jimmyggreg89992 жыл бұрын
@@Shrednaught So you just make sure to place it at the same spot on the straight edge or blank for consitency? Like a centre mark or something?
@Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to get to technical with it. The straight edge you place will always find the spot. Just like if you laid the board down on a flat floor it’ll find the balance point for you to measure the rocker from.

Aloha, Thanks for the sharing this build! Did you dilute the pigment before it was applied? If so with what substance? Did you apply pigment just the top layer to save on pigment?

I used acetone to dilute the pigment. I only did the top as that was the aesthetic I was chasing with the cutlap on the bottom. I’ll post a video next week on how exactly I achieved this - step by step 🤙

do you use fiber glass cloth 6x6 onz on deck and 6 onz on bottom + stringerless structure? I just want to made my 6 feet stringerless(2 pound eps) too but im not sure about the strength the wave at my home town is normally 3-4 ft.

Normally no. I use a high grade and it doesn’t get too much bead tear. The small holes that I do get I just fill as I’m glassing. Doesn’t add any weight and creates a nice strong bond.

@scottstewart61802 жыл бұрын
@@Shrednaught was gonna ask this same question, and this is the answer I was looking for. One of my coworkers did this same technique, also with EPS, turned out really sick. Currently gonna do the same thing on a poly garage board I’m making right now. Some things that maybe you would have some thoughts on when you make your follow up video… 1) In the case of Poly, could the acetone in the pigment/cloth inadvertently exceed the 10% acetone to resin ratio and cause a softened lamination? (heard more than 10% acetone relative to volume of poly resin will cause resin to never fully harden). 2) Could this same technique work with acrylic paint used to dye the cloth instead, since acrylic is water based? If it did work for staining the cloth, would it be more ideal with epoxy or poly?
@Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
I did some research on the affects of acetone on fibreglass and most of the information I came across was relating to boats. When doing the acetone and pigment I allow it to dry completely. And I left it for about 2 weeks before using it with resin. Thought being that the acetone completely evaporates and leaves just the stained pigment on the cloth. Acetone on freshly laminate glass will weaken it. But I think if you let it evaporate completely it should be fine. I don’t see why you couldn’t use acrylic paint. Only downfall might be colour hold when using resin to wet out? But I honestly haven’t tried it or done any research on it so I can’t give a definitive answer.
