Did the same thing on a G35, installed a full dual exhaust, headers, test pipes, resonators, and the rest all the way back. Took it for a test drive, came back and immediately put the cats back on, it was LOUD.

I installed headers, Motordyne ART pipes (had them on the previous exhaust) and a Motordyne TDX2 cat-back exhaust. It was... anti social. I had buy some cats to quiet the thing down. Sounds great now though. I've got PPE LTH on the way, so it's probably going to undo all that anyway lol

To smooth out the exhaust note, put a muffler style resonator (such as Vibrant Ultra Quiet) on both forks of the Y pipe. So you'll end up with two muffler-style resonators that merge into the hotdog you installed. This'll result in a really smooth sound without sacrificing volume. If you don't have the space for that, weld a muffler style resonator into your cannon at the rear. That'll do 75% of the job and will really reduce the trumpet

10:03 my G with the OSRS soundtrack!!! Hot Tip: For my GKTECH hydro, i needed to cut the bolt itself on the hydro reservoir plunger, i needed to take a quarter inch or more off to make the handle fit better, now it barely hits the climate control... it'll still hit no matter what.

Tips for the stainless welding mate (I’m not trade qualified, just have some clues) the colour of the welds indicate that you’re getting a fair bit of contamination, as well as being to hot, the colour I’m talking about is that dull gray black, you can think of that like burning the stainless steel. The ideal colour your looking for is a straw gold, but rainbow is ok. Play around with your amps, the lower the better with stainless, better to move slowly than ruin the material, and sometimes lowering your gas flow to more around 7L/m on a lower amp setting will help with the quality of the weld, also PRE and POST flow are essential, i usually run 5-7 seconds of post flow when welding stainless of that thickness, and pre flow is also essential, give the wand button or pedal a click on and off again to trigger your post flow and let it surround the area you are about to weld with gas. Your tungsten should hover 1- 2 mm above the weld, and the tungsten should stick out from your cup about 1cm. Also try to keep your filler rod inside your gas cone. Also best practice would be to purge the inside of the exhaust with argon also but it isn’t suuuper important at your stage. Love the videos my cousin, hope this helps you.

Yeah Benny good stuff! We met at WTAC last year when you told me about the 350! I've been learning to tig the past few years and feel the same pains you had with the fitment hahaha Welding two pieces of metal together is easy but FABRICATING is an art i still suck at. I suggest next time, fitting it all up and tacking it on the car. It will save you from headaches! Keep it up man!

when i had a g35 i had the same exhaust pretty much. full straight pipe to a dual exit with only mufflers at the end and it was wayyyy to loud. couldn’t even talk to the passenger

Put some small hose claps on the exhaust hangers to keep them in the rubber mounts. It keeps your pipes from trying to rage quit when shredding.. 😎

btw with the tig welding make sure your tungston is as sharp as you can makes the welding go to a smaller point and betters the weld. and it doesnt stick to the metal as much, anytime it sticks you gotta resharpen

The absolute biggest mistake you can possibly make with a street/drift car is putting a loud ass straight pipe on. If you go sliding at any spot. You immediately have to think about “who can hear my cars tires and exhaust from here?”. It’s ALOOOOT funner, having a 20-30 minutes sesh at a spot rather than 2 or 3 runs. Trust me

If you want a straight pipe like that you should put a turn down exhaust tip on it you will keep the noise but the sound would be a lot better due to it facing the ground

Hold the welding gun close to the weld for 5-10 seconds after u finish the weld. If you keep pulling the tip away after you let off the power you let oxygen get to the weld compromising it

A while back, Hoonigan had a G35 (VQ motor, just like your Z) and they welded in as many resonators and mufflers that would fit under the car to make it quiet or sound less like angry elephants. 💁‍♂Some food for thought!

Let’s get this man some proper welding lessons. But not to bad to start I would recommend bringing that tungsten back to about 5 mm outside the cup and make sure it’s sharp when doing stainless red tipped tungsten works the best with stainless but keep it sharp if it is burning up the tungsten to much without you even touching the material turn the gas up during your weld or post weld. But definitely recommend like the tig welding tafe course

loved this video as someone with both fab experience and several years of ownership of a v35 sedan. I saw so many of these problems coming 😂 I legit gave myself tinnitus from driving the car straight piped so many miles. all the test pipes are dogshit quality and make the car super loud. and be ready to replace thoe flex sections on your y pipe they blow out All the time. get a pedal for your tig machine it makes tacking and heat management sooo much easier.

the loose tie rods gave me flash backs when my s15 snapped its hyme joints not once but twice. luckly they both gave out in carparks but one time it was just after i got off the highway. wild seeing your car wheels point in 2 different directions. they were gktech units and after contacting them about it they said stuff like "yeah na, 100% installation error, our stuff doesnt break but here, have our new stronger ones" like wtf why make stronger ones if the existing product doesnt fail? anyway after the second time i threw them in the bin and got some quality hymes. dodged a bullet twice thats for sure
