The church of my childhood was so beautiful, a main altar and two side altars to Mary and Joseph. Wonderful statues, gorgeous and gilded, Lovely linen and lace. All taken out to put up vents. l like seeing the face of the priest but it's not the same.

I was an altar boy in the novus ordo, and I loved it, but there was something missing as I have learned over my 45 years on this earth. Thank you, God, for opening my eyes.

Strange music for a video about the Faith.

Erik van der Does de Bye You'd prefer the Minute Waltz? Watching an altar being changed from one style to another - at high speed - isn't a sacramental act that should be accompanied by Gregorian chant. The music fits perfectly.

I suppose, but it does remind me of our Melkite and Maronite brethren.

Makes total sense... the Church is an extension of Judaism, and this sounds like middle eastern music to me...

Ugh.....the "altar" in our parish is a round table in the middle of church. The laypeople face each other similar to a stadium. No kneelers either. Horrible.

Dontgiveup the liberals like theatre in the round. Round churches were built all over the place after the council. Ironically, this was around the time theatres discovered that theatre in the round did not work

Is that kind of altar frontal available for purchase????
@galleryguide99136 жыл бұрын
Usually frontals are custom made to fit the size of the altar in question whether they be made by church community themselves or by an ecclesiastical furnishing company. One of the most renowned furnishing companies is Watts & Co. who are by royal warrant ecclesiastical furnishers to Queen Elizabeth. www.wattsandco.com/altar-frontals.html

RIGHT!!!!! I don't know what happened.... but I surely don't see the Lord glorified in the modern alters.... my church has the same plain marble alter :-/

It would be well to remember that the so called 'traditional' altar used as a model for the transformation is actually an innovation of the Baroque period of the 17th century, particularly the use of the gradine at the back to support the crucifix, candlesticks, tabernacle and flowers. Strictly speaking the gradine is not part of the altar proper and thus should not actually be resting on the mensa at all. According to the Roman Rite the altar's sacred nature is such that only things associated with the sacrifice of the mass should even touch it. For those who have attended the Divine Office in traditional religious houses, nothing rests on the altar other than the crucifix and candlesticks; not even books of the office are allowed on the altar. Although it is a common practice, it is not strictly proper for floral arrangements to be placed on the altar itself. Indeed it has never been the historical practice for floral arrangements to be placed on any of the altars of the Patriarchal basilicas in Rome.

gallery guide you make some good and interesting points. i would never have flowers on the altar. and as far as i know they are not permitted. but it didn't help when JPII said Mass with flowers on one side of the altar and candles on the other side. I had heard that that Master of Ceremonies was replaced by Pope Benedict

What exactly is your point? Modern good? Traditional bad? Not everyone shares your preferences. Or prejudices.
@Blaseboniface10 жыл бұрын
The "Sacrifice" of the Mass - as all sacrifices do - requires an Altar, not a supper table. It is not a matter of preference, it is tied to what is believed. Lex orandi, lex credendi. As one prays, so one believes.
@gunnarthorsen9 жыл бұрын
Blaseboniface Orthodox Christians and Byzantine Rite Catholics - who also believe that the Liturgy constitutes a sacrifice, and who have relics set into their altars, also call their altars "Holy Tables", so the term "table" is ancient too.
