Finally- a filming of eucharist preparation that shows in slow, deliberate, contemplative motions and words the beauty and solemnity of it. Show more of these and the faith may actually draw people back in. Too many priests I've seen filmed do this at a hamster cage speed as if it's fast food!. It was so wonderful seeing this so peacefully, quietly and passionately- how it should be.

Everything changed when I was 12 years of age, but I have never forgotten the Latin responses, or the time allowed for personal prayer. The noise and banality of the modern rite of Mass is tragic. @martinmata403Sorry but no, Salvation is not a free gift. And obeying God is not a result of salvation, but is instead the cause of Salvation. For when Jesus was asked how to be saved, his response was to obey the will of The Father. Not that if you believe in him you will be Saved, and therefore will obey The Will of The Father. Sola Fide is Unbiblical, and is misbelief which only popped up in the 1500s. No Christian before that ever believed in Sola Fide. Jesus when speaking about The Day of Judgement, says he will seperate The Sheep and The Goats. He describes The Sheep as those who fed the hungry and clothed the poor. And describes the goats as those who had NO LAW. Salvation as a "free gift" is a decievation from Satan, in order to make you believe you do not need to actively try to obey Christ and his commands to be Saved.

I just… don’t understand why they would remove this… I just don’t understand why I as a new convert 23 yo male in south central Kentucky am not allowed to have this. I’ve spoke to the priest numerous times. He’s extremely pro norvos ordo I believe it’s because of being ordained in 1970. But still I just don’t understand how someone could prefer the new mass over this. Or at least if the people wish for the traditional why are we not allowed to have it? If they makes us feel closer to God why can’t we do that? Why?? Give the people what they want.

Mass is Mass. I must say though, there's something to this. I am also from the south, NC, where we likely are even less Catholic than Kentucky (a state I genuinely LOVE btw), and it is a desert of true Catholicism. The priests are generally bad or uncaring. The bishop is an asshat, the Diocese does not help me. I was in Catholic school my whole life and surprisingly realize I want to take this as far as it will go. I want it all the way, I see such spiritual fruit in Tridentine Mass, why not have them both? I love Pope Francis so much but wish, if trying to get rid of Tridentine Mass, was his method of going after conservatives who try to keep people like me out of the Church, that he'd find another way. Just defrock them. Let this Mass be, we should have options. It's like a spiritual trance. Imagine how many New Age people we'd convert, since they already listen to Gregorian Chant!

There's so much sacredness, reverence and solemnity in the TLM. It is easy to say that you don't know what the priest is saying and therefore he should do the Mass in the mother tongue of wherever he enacts the Sacrament. It is also easy to say that people need to learn Latin. The fact is, ultimately, that you can do it both ways and yet be reverential to the Sacrament. That's the over-arching issue: the loss of respect and adoration for Our Lord in the Sacrament of the Mass.

The Traditional Latin Mass is focused on Jesus, which is why the priest faces the tabernacle, not the people. The altar server makes responses on behalf of the congregation.

What you @marcgray7317 are referring to is the 'Dialogue Mass' or 'Low Mass' where the mass is not sung. It largely depends on the customs of the country in which the diocese is located. Germany and France for example have had the custom of the laity responding, but It is the custom of the United States that the congregation stay silent and the alter servers respond on behalf of the laity.

To put the previous three replies together, and to expand, it is because the Priest holds the Eucharist with his thumbs and index fingers. No other part of his hand ever handles the Eucharist in the Traditional Latin Mass. From the major elevation of the Body until the two lavabos, the Priests handles only the Eucharist with his thumbs and index fingers. The Chalice is also handled during this window of time with the thumbs and index fingers together to not potentially lose and particles of consecrated Eucharist to the altar, the floor, or the Corporal (the white cloth put over the altar that the Chalice does not leave with consecrated Blood in it). This happens to be a measure of caution that priests take to preserve the sacredness of the Eucharist (Body and Blood, as I've mentioned the Chalice as well).
