I buit power distribution units too and i have 1 year in the electrical school long time ago, so thnks for your videos it helps a lot

Nicely build but my motto is: Less connections = higher reliability. Plus that I am from the Netherlands and we never ever use solid wire for mobile applications for obvious reasons like vibrations that can loosen a connection. I always used 2,5mm2/12AWG for these kind of things in past and go end to end (star layout). Nowadays I use 1,5mm2/14AWG and follow the Brits by making a ring circuit. Still have the same current carrying capacity as with 1,5mm2 but more reliable and easier to build because of thinner wire. Also less voltage drop but due to lower resistance but that is a long explanation as to how and why. There are videos on KZbin about it if you are really interested.

From what I've seen, Wago connectors don't vibrate loose and are quite difficult to pull apart, though I could be incorrect. I'd love to see testing done to confirm this as a potential issue with mobile systems like this. 🤔

Nice build. One comment is. I have been told by licensed electricians that you should not have the hot or neutral wires “looped through “ the screws on the outlet. They should be split off before the outlet. I know this because I built a similar disto and showed to an electrician and he told me and showed me literature from a manufacturer that said not to do it. Also he advised that if something were to happen like equipment damage or personal injury,how ever unlikely, and there was litigation involved the fact that I am not a licensed electrician could make me liable for damages and lawsuits. Take it for what it is worth.

I am building a system for my schools gym and we have a portable rack planned, I wanted to use True1 on a panel mount into the furman conditioner, how should i go about this
@billylaguardia Жыл бұрын
I have 2 standard options in a 1RU format that would be a good fit: www.lmcasesonline.com/lm-tour-systems/power-inlet-rack-mount-panels/true1/

I think he said he custom designed it in CAD and then had it fabricated. (I think 🤔)

Trying to build a distro and this video really helps out! I’m having a hard time understanding one thing… you said in the video that you ran out of “14-16 gauge disconnects” but you’re using 12 gauge wiring. You don’t need 12-10 disconnects?
@billylaguardia2 жыл бұрын
12awg THHN wire fits very snug in the blue 14-16awg hardware. I like to only use the yellow 10-12 hardware with 10awg cable. 12 is obviously in spec, it’s just a tighter crimp with the smaller diameter hardware.

I would love to have a auto-switching pdu which has two inputs (primary, secondary) and then 2x NEMA 5-15 ouputs.

I actually have a dual input L5-15 distro build coming up. I’ll film it!
@justinknash11 ай бұрын
@@billylaguardia are you planning on selling them by chance? What would be a general price target? Auto-switching pdus with dual failover inputs are typically pricy. I’m using for networking equipment, where one input goes to utility and the other goes to UPS battery.
