Proves that it doesn’t matter what the EQ looks like, it’s what it sounds like. iPhones are a great reproduction of what it actually sounded like, regardless of anyone’s puffy-chested dismissal. On a vizio soundbar with “sub” it sounds balanced and full. Nice going!

@@billylaguardia been mixing for 35 years and all my peers are old touring cats and corporate audio lifers. EQ is a “whatever it takes” proposition. Tools like Smaart are great but most audio mixers aren’t cut out to be system techs. I’m sure you’ve found that in many rooms that have been supposedly rung out, you end up EQing even more to get it where you feel it needs to be. But there’s also a tipping point to be aware of, when too much EQ (especially graphic) becomes counterproductive. Many rooms and system configurations are irreconcilable. The best techs I know, though, EQ even from song to song or moment to moment when necessary or just leave it alone sometimes with minor adjustments here or there. Temperature and audience capacity are two factors that determine that as well. Anyways, keep it up and have fun! Best of luck on your endeavors.

Man, what an awesome weddingband. How did you ring out that PA with all those People around on the second Gig? Or did you get the chance to do so at all? Some more Timenotes in your Videos would be nice. No Idea how long it took you to do that setup. Semmed pretty quick though.
@billylaguardia
@billylaguardia 19 күн бұрын
@@jfrohne I can get everything set up in around an hour +/- with this band as far as time goes. The PA tune is an often debated subject with my videos. The trick with people in the room is to listen to music very softly so you can get an idea of where frequencies in the room are at. Next I stand with my back to the PA with a flat channel EQ and flat PA EQ’s and make clicking sounds with my mouth. This excites the higher frequencies in the room. It’s the same as the “teeth” part of “two” when saying “check one two”. The “squirrel noises” are a little less distracting than saying “check two”. That lets you get the ringy/squealing/howling noises in check with steep narrow notches. The music portion will let you make the speakers sound “flat” ish. Then dial in your vocal sound at the channel level. We very rarely ever get a real sound check. The first time I hear the PA is the vibe set followed by introductions followed by the first dance. The first time I hear the full band with a quiet room is the first dance which is a great way to get fast as solving problems!

@@billylaguardia wow, one Hour is quick. A similar setup usually takes me 2-3 hours. The „squirrel Noise“ is a great Idea. I sometimes do a „whistle sweep“ a little like smaart to excite all the Frequencies. That pretty distracting for others though. Thanks for your in-Depth Answer btw

Awww thanks! There are a lot of people who really don’t like the way I do things. But I will say I’ve probably done 200 or so gigs with this band and the methods used work. They have to play a variety of rooms that aren’t designed for music. It’s always a challenge acoustically: big boomy rooms where the band needs to remain around 95db. To add to the complexity, people generally will give speeches in front of the PA. You can dial the EQ back a bit once you are in a music venue, but the methods hold true regardless of venue.

Howdy! I guess it's been a while. I have a setup working with a 1248, Stage-B16, and StudioLive 32SC. Everything is smooth in terms of their communication. The StudioLive was a later addition that we hope to use to mix live shows, since the original AVB setup was just for recording. My question is, is there any way to control the preamps on the Stage-B16 from the StudioLive? Of all the MOTU devices, the B16 is the only one without front-panel control of such things, and the recording booth with the 1248 and computer is a few flights of stairs away from the mixer location. I guess i can try the tablet apps, but am wondering (wishing, really) if there's any way the PreSonus can control it the way it can a Presonus AVB stagebox.

Did you watch the whole video? I showed the room, the speaker placement and 4 singers standing in front of the PA. I gave reasonable and logical explanations of why I was doing what I was doing. Assuming I did EQ with my eyes, wouldn't my EQ be flat to appease the comments section? I am not the singular authority on sound. However a wedding band with 12 people crammed into a corner in a country club with people singing and giving speeches in front of the PA requires different methods than a club, theater or arena show. If you have any suggestions that would help a room / set up like this sound better, I would love to hear them. In fact, I have 2 shows in 2 similar rooms this weekend. I will gladly employ any and all of your suggestions and credit you in the video.

I'm definitely not nearly the most experienced expert in this matter, but I do know how to make a show sound good. I'm actually newly enrolled in audio engineering school, so I'm looking forward to what I have to learn. But yes, recently somewhere on social media, I mentioned that I have a separate eq for my subs, and a guy went at me, swearing that you cannot eq subs, and there is no reason to have them on a separate feed from the mains. I didn't have the breakdown that you gave (and I generally just don't go back and forth on the internet), but I just said that I do what makes the system sound good in the room that I'm in.
@billylaguardia
@billylaguardia Ай бұрын
You absolutely can (and should) EQ your subs. I I was a guest at a wedding with 800 people tonight. The band had a Martin rig with a QL5. The double 18 subs sounded awful. A steeper LPF and a couple of dips would have tightened everything up. Hugely expensive rig that sounded terrible. Feedback the whole night. Perhaps an EQ that didn’t “look great” may have solved the problems….
@Xolanidj
@Xolanidj 28 күн бұрын
@@billylaguardia That's the other part of it too. A lot of folks think that all they need to do is spend a lot of money on a rig, and make it go really loud. Extracting the audio isn’t the issue. My problem is that I need the TV’s remote to attenuate the volume of the system. The extractors only give you the full volume PCM audio. Unless something has changed very recently with Motu, Presonus AVB does NOT talk to Motu AVB. Motu is very good, but it also very proprietary. It is a closed ecosystem. I actually have both as the Motu AVB is a much smaller footprint for my solo electronic percussion rig. It works awesome. When I gig with my complete acoustic percussion rig where I have 10-15 inputs I use my 24R. When I gig with my dance band, we have a 32SC and my 24R becomes a stage box with a single RJ45 connection.
