Thanks. I’ve just started properly this week after getting distracted for over a year! Having trouble sourcing a 10mm 6.3v lamp holder for my chassis (bought from Steve Smith). I might do another video on it!

@@davespeakmanmusic not sure what happened to my comment but I actually started building AC30 myself. Al.ost 15 years since I did my layout. I will be watching your progress :) let me know if you need anything as I have collected a lot of data on AC30's

I've just finished building one of these from scratch. I'll say that I've built a bunch of amps, some that I've designed from the ground up, and this was the most complex and difficult. The vibrato circuit is bonkers! Happy to help out if you get stuck. Cheers!

Thanks, that’s great. I’ve got all the parts now, I need to find time to start it properly. I feel like I need to dedicate a couple of days to it at the start to make sure I get it right.

I bought all the parts off webers layout. I was going to build the weber you mentioned but I ordered the book and I think I will do like you did and wait for it to come in to see the differences.

There’s a couple of mistakes in the Stephen Grovesnor book too from what I can work out. This one is what I’m using. I’m adding the top boost to this too. turretboard.knucklehead.dk/tag/ac30/

Best wishes with your project!! I built an AC30 style chassis a few years back. It has a single channel with EF86 valve Preamp based on the AC30/4 version. Mine also includes a rotary tone switch and Master Volume after the Phase Inverter. I used Watford Valves brand tubes/valves in it. Two Hints based on personal experience - Ensure that you have a good grounding layout to reduce noise and possible Ground Loops. Ensure that all solder joints are very strong. Any loose solder joints, especially in the grounds, can cause noise and hum. Look forward to following your build.

Thanks. Glad that the video is of interest. Great tips, I ran into similar problems with my Plexi build. 😀

Lyle at Psionic is definitely the AC 30 guy to go to! He stresses lead dress but the problem with Vox and Sometimes Marshall's is the grounds. Good luck with this! The Weber does sound good though! Ted copied a 65' head. Lyle likes the Vishay caps and Mallory 150's. They are cheap and do the job.

Yes, I’ve watched all his videos. Great stuff. I’ve gone with Mallory caps. I’ll make a video of all the stuff I’ve bought next time I get a bit of time. 😀😀

@@davespeakmanmusic yeah grounding is very important. Lyle sez,,, there is perfect,, there is more than good enough (fender) and there is not very good,( vox and marshall) .

Hi, just starting the same journey but from NZ which means more expensive. Are you still carrying this VLOG. Please do.

Hi Simon. I just started working on the AC30 again yesterday. I’ve been distracted by various things this last year but have finally got back to it! Yes, I do intend to do an update video. It’s been quite difficult sourcing certain components. Where are you up to in your build?

Yes, I’ve been wiring it up recently. Work went mad busy last year and I’ve just not had enough spare time to crack on with it properly. I always feel like I need to study it a lot before getting on so need to have a six hour block to make any progress.

What resistors are you going with? CF / CC or a combo? Brand?

Mostly carbon comps to be as accurate as possible. There are a few that had to be substituted to carbon film due to availability. I need to get in with this build really but it’s been a bit cold in the garage!

If I get around to building this amp - I’ll do part 2. I’ve just had so much work the past couple of years that there hasn’t really been time.
