I think a lot of those who 'bash' on Seiko, including me, are more frustrated than hate Seiko or enjoy bashing on them. I own three Seikos and have plans to purchase two more. We all long for the days of the great value fabulous SKX as an example. We are frustrated that we can find other watches for much cheaper without Seikos issues often with better specs AND Seiko movements. These can be straight up Seiko homages, other brands including Citizen or sister brand Orient, or micro-brands. We still LOVE Seiko's designs but just wish they would fix the issues (these issues aren't huge or terrible expensive: milled instead of pressed clasp, signed crown, sapphire crystal - even synthetic and better QC) to justify the increasing prices or keep the prices down to a point we could say 'ok it isn't perfect ... but it is great for the price'.

I had the same though, but with Tissot, given price point compatibility between the two. Visodate, Porto, Lisbia, Gentleman, PRX, Héritage Chrono (or Janeiro if you are super lucky), Sovereign, Seastar. Plus a whole world of vintage to delve into. And the T-Touch for the new tech generation. Athough, the Longines 1967 Heritage Chrono Diver stands as a near perfect one piece collection all on its own functionality-wise. 300m WR, column wheel, vertical clutch, 70 hours power reserve, second time zone bezel, timer bezel, tachymeter, and that burgundy adding just enough elegance for a business suit (it wears a lot smaller and thinner than it's specs).

You keep knocking these videos out of the park! 👍🏽 Can’t argue with any of the choices. I own quite a few including the SACM. It’s small but wears like a 36mm due to having very little bezel. The 8J41 movement was used in Grand Seiko and Credor before being replaced by 7r and 9r movements. It’s thermocompensated and carries 7 jewels in a full metal construction. My dedicated dress watch. Definitely worth a punt.

Ah this has been a trip down memory lane with those now expensive Seikos, I remember being too young to be able to afford them like 8 years ago, but now at the old prices they would have been THE watches to get. Imho from the SARX series you should have mentioned the SARX015, beautiful watch. To note SNK803 is the one watch from the other colours in the series that has the same colour line going through the date/day wheel as it does on the dial, the placement with the whole dial design is just spectacular considering that the watch costs south of 100$ while some several thousand dollar watches seem to only remember the date placement after the fact when the whole dial design has been made already. Really feels like the movements goes hand in hand with the design.

For me it’s Seiko QC issues on even more expensive watches, rising prices for entry models like new Seiko 5 while killing affordable and popular models like SKX007(in Poland SKX costs 300 euro or more and you have to import it from Asia) or SNK809. Don’t get me wrong - they are great company with amazing heritage, cool technology like Magic Lever or Diashock resist and SNK809 was my first automatic but I don’t like that they relegate affordable watches to brands like Orient when they go for middle and High End markets only. Good thing is that we have competition - low End market will always be there and customers who can’t spend more but would love to wear basic mechanical Watch. Hopefully someone will compete with Orient because in low End if you want dress Watch it’s always Bambino, Esteem or Envoy :)

I just added a 2nd Seiko to my collection: a Presage "Old Clock" cocktail watch (have also seen it listed as a "Blue Manhattan" but don't confuse it with the actual "Manhattan" which has a different color dial. The "Old Clock has what they term a 'navy blue' which really shows off the guilloche pattern of the dial. The light plays off of it in a way that is mesmerizing, even more so than photos can display. I'm amazed at the beauty of the dials that Seiko produces at this price point. The "Sharp Edge" is on my radar, in either green or blue.

Some hipster Seiko picks: Field watch: SARG007. Kind of a more military-ish Alpinist with a 40mm case. Diver: SBDC003/SBDC033 "blumo" -- I prefer the 003 for the older style dial. This is the original Sumo which I think looks better than the new one. Dress watch: Seiko SARB066 -- The "other" of the original cocktail time series. Hard to find but funky and amazing if you're willing to put up with the gold tone case. Complication/weird: Seiko "Time Sonar" chronograph 7015-6010: Weird and rare 70s chronograph with a translucent dial. Or you could just get a funky 6139, there are tons of weirder versions that fly under the radar compared to the "Pogue" and "Bruce Lee."

Early 1960s Seiko5, Seikomatic (pre Grand Seiko), King Seiko and Grand Seiko are stunning, going through to the Silverwaves and early dive watches like the original 62mas, the 6217-7000 World Time and 45899 Single Pusher; the 1970's models like the 6138 and 6139s; the 1980s speedmaster 7a28 and the evolution of the quartz piece like the first GS quartz and 8T23 Impact/Full Charge. I fall into the Seiko Purist category. I've been telling people for the last couple of years, Seiko is a high end brand that also makes some affordable watches. Around the $3k price point, they produce amazing watches. When I first picked up an SLA021 Marinemaster I was blown away (and previously wasnt a fan of Seiko). After experiencing other SLA-level models, King Seiko re-edition, and even moving up to the LX and Grand Seiko you really see what Seiko is capable of doing. Not saying their more affordable pieces arent great, but for me personally once I hit that Marinemaster level it all finally clicked.

Seiko does a great job of offering styles that match the looks of much more expensive classics, without feeling like an outright homage. They also have many classics in their own right. Seiko was once my favorite brand…Now I would say that I don’t have a favorite brand. I grew so frustrated with quality control issues on watches the cost upwards and in some cases over $1000 in my collection. I purchased one Seiko this year. I purchased (8)eight micro brand watches. A Hamilton, Tissot, (3) three Citizen’s, (2) Casio G shocks, an Alpina, Glycine, Sinn, and an Omega….Normally I would’ve purchased 4 or 5 Seiko’s…I just can’t justify the price increases while giving you less watch for the money…Thanks for the great video though Teddy!

Really interested in this vid Teddy. Enjoyed it immensely. I own a sarb 033, a sarb 017 green alpinist, a sky diving cocktail time and a sarx 045 just like yours! However my most precious Seiko is an orange Pogue which was an 11th birthday gift from my dad in 1975. I think I'm a bit of a 'tick all the boxes' type of guy but I'm definitely missing a Seiko diver. Not sure which to go for though. I have a Christopher Ward Trident in 38mm with red bezel so don't really feel the need for another diver. I think the next Seiko I get will be of the 'Grand' variety when I can afford one.

Seiko is probably my favorite brand. They have so many options and I love the fact that they are easily personalized. I only have 12 watches(I'm still building)and they are all seikos apart from 3 of them

Cocktail time, Kakume, Blue Lagoon Turtle, Jade Samurai on a Mr. Seiko beads of rice, golden Pogue, 017 Alpinist. All about the fun functionality and history with Seiko. I love the SARB 033 etc., but don't really see them as a realistic first "office watch"/sport watch combo despite their looks and versatility. Great concept and feature for a video series!!!

Great video! Love the concept. I personally have created my ideal collection just with Seiko. Here it is: SKX009 Diver on a white & blue NATO strap as my “beater” watch. SPB117 Alpinist with the black dial for casual wear. SPB 143 Diver, the modern reinterpretation of the “62MAS” for when I want a dressier diver. And, the SPB217 Sharp Edge GMT with the blue dial for travel or when I want a little flashier look. With these four watches I cover all my needs. Thanks!
