Seiko is the pusher hanging out near the high school. "Hey, let me give you a taste at a great price". Next thing you know, you are sitting in a doorway mainlining Grand Seiko muttering about zairatsu finishes. Definitely a gateway drug.

Absolutely love Seiko watches. Owned a sport 5 for a couple years now. I visit Japan twice a year and just recently purchased a Seiko Prospex GMT (solar powered) and a King Seiko. I went to Seiko Dream Square in Ginza and each floor is set out in their tiers of watches. Only thing not inside is Grand Seiko. Those are next door in a different building. I went to purchase a Grand Seiko but after trying on a couple wathces I settled for the Prospex and a King instead of the one Grand Seiko. The staff are awesome in both these buildings

Seiko does so much right. I think foremost for me is their visual design. Unique, beautiful, and ergonomic. I have a black SRPH17k1 Tortoise, which is probably the cheapest auto Seiko to have a sapphire crystal. The dial and case design are simply superb, and I can't understand why they weren't smash hits. In fact, I think they have been discontinued in the US. If I were to shop higher up, the 62MAS recreations and the Presage sharp-edged models would be top of the list. Great video, thanks!

Because many criticized the movement on their entry level, while most of the time, watch collectors swap watches almost everyday. I personnally don't care as I never wear the same watch 3 days in a row and care more about the whole package rather than narrowing the watch to its movement. But it is very important to some folks. Thus, the return of King Seiko has been discussed a lot and now, the King Seiko lineup doesn't get the credit it deserved.

I get all my seiko’s directly from Japan because I demand: made in Japan on the dial or case back. Also one very peculiar thing. The 6R movements however like to misbehave which has me scratching my head since they are supposed to be more premium calibers.

The 6r35 in my lovely spb117 is very disappointing. The position variance is massive, and the amplitude is horrible. 70 hours of PW is pointless when having to reset the time so often. * I'm tempted to swap the 6r with a NH. For the cost of a proper servicing, I could get 10 NHs and start living with wild abandon. * slightly sarcastic & joking tone..

Great presentation Teddy, I've been collecting for over ten years now and a large part of my collection include the last mid-century mechanical Seiko's; the Grand Seiko, King Seiko, Seiko Crown Special, Chronos, and Seiko Week Daters. I also collect Swiss watches from the 50s-70s. I alternate wearing all of them from time to time to keep the internals lubricated. In my experience, these high-level Seiko watches equal or exceed any of the Swiss watches in my collections in durability, build-quality, and wearability. I truly love them all. I like SEIKO so much. Personaly own Monster Save the Antarctica and can say that it`s great watch. I found good mechanism with date and day indication. Only one thing it`s a bit heavy)

Is it on a rubber strap? I've had to put some of my heavier chronograph on Everest rubber strap. Makes a big difference..

@@richardmorris7063 No, stainless steel. I am looking for some straps suitable for this model. But not easy to find.

@@richardmorris7063I would second the rubber strap. I used to own a Monster but it felt too heavy on the bracelet. I now own a King Turtle on rubber and it is so comfortable to wear.

I just got a Seiko “Dark water” SJE101. Legitimately better looking and feeling than my Omega

It’s clear as mud to me. But I really dig the look of so many of these watches.

Great video! I’d put the alpinist line above most, if not all, of the cocktail time pieces, so their home within Seiko luxe checks out

I know this makes me an outlier as a watch guy but I'm yet to own my first Seiko. I'll get there someday but the right model hasn't found me yet

Thanks a lot. AWESOME! This video clarified so much for me. I subscribed! I’ll look forward to viewing other videos that have that format: break down what a brand offers so that it’s possible to make an informed choice . Too often we go to a watch store and are inundated with seemingly helpful seller who doesn’t know what they are talking about…

When I was a teenager I had a passed it down Timex watch from my sibling. My 1st owned bought watch was a Casio, then followed by a Seiko 5 sport.

Really nice breakdown of the product tiers. There are so many choices that I have always found it hard to understand the steps up.

And there are several wildcards in all of these ranges, Teddy. For example, the Seiko Quartz SURs, despite being so affordable (you mentioned it in tier 1), have a variation where it has titanium case and straps on top of sapphire glass. Making it ironically closer to Grand Seiko quartz than many of Seiko's entire lineups lol

Thanks for breaking this down, I had no idea they were broken down in different tiers. Looking forward to get a GMT Seiko 5 and a King Seiko or the Re-issue GMT SPB411 (I assuming this is considered tier 3?).

My first watch was a Timex Quartz (early 70s) and a few years later I followed that with my second watch, a Seiko Automatic. Seiko makes quality attractive watches. I now have several Swiss watches but I also recently bought a Seiko 5 (Bruce Lee 55th anniversary edition.) 😎⌚️🍸

Another well organized, info-packed and articulate vid. Much needed in the given subject matter. You should have titled it "Now you Sea-eek-oooh, Now You Don't " 'cept'n tongue-in-cheek isn't your style 😉 You're spot-on about Seiko's almost animal magnetism for the casual purchasers, at least as far as this consumer is concerned. Thanks for the topographic approach...so much lume in it!! I only recently discovered the existence of KING SEIKO, through incidental perusal of Reddit chatting with reference to so-called VINTAGE watches. Ironic that my "discovery" coincides with the mfg's renewal. Almost serindipitously, the "Retro" Collection, which also made me scratch my own head regarding the four offerings. This from the company that has a dizzying array of Seiko Five models. Biggest take-away: SEIKO LUX...or is it Luxe?
