Looks really well built, love the timber framing. I wish sauna companies would offer something similar. That thing is going to last a lifetime. Nice work.

Very good idea of timberframing a sauna structure. I am planning either to build a sauna in my backyard, or re-purpose a shed that i built year or ago but might be to small its only 6 by 8 feet

Really nice build...you know if your going to do it do it right.....looks like you have that covered pretty well . Not everyone can lay sticky stone and make it look good . She did well and would most likely really master it after a few builds

For safety, you need 16" of hearth in front of doors on your stove. It will protect if hot coals fall out when you open the doors.
@AlexCookaacook3 жыл бұрын
Nice! How hot does it get? I can't tell if the stove you have is a regular wood stove or sauna-specific stove. In the future you might want to consider upgrading to a Kuuma stove. The timber framing is awesome. Have you thought about adding a changing room? Your sauna is perfectly situated; must be awesome to cold plunge in that lake.
@undomesticated75043 жыл бұрын
After an hour it is right around 170. At that point I usually close the air intake and throw a big log on and it sticks right around there. I have gotten it up to 210 in the winter when it was 20 degrees out so I’ve never had a problem getting it hot enough but it is just a standard wood stove. A sauna specific one would definitely be better. Thanks! I wish I would’ve added a changing room but hindsight is 20/20.

@@undomesticated7504 Would a legit sauna stove make much of a difference? I found your video researching for a budget sauna in my back yard and I would like to use a normal used wood stove with sauna rocks on top just like you did.
@undomesticated75042 жыл бұрын
@@kyledixon7360 I think the only advantages are the ability to fit more stones and the clearance is greatly reduced. A sauna stove is designed to direct the heat upwards so the clearance on the sides is significantly less than that of a traditional wood stove.

What a beautiful hand built sauna! No doubt it will out last the telephone poles you built it on. How does the pine on the inside handle the heat and steam? I’ve heard not to use pine but to save on cost I’m thinking of doing pine myself.
@undomesticated75043 жыл бұрын
That is why I went with pine, cedar was just too far out of my price range. I honestly have not had a problem yet with the pine. I think good venting has eliminated any issues that could arise from using pine. In hindsight I definitely should have went with concrete piers.
@erikk1682 жыл бұрын
I think pine is a good choice. In Finland where the sauna originated Cedar doesn't even grow. Aspen, pine and spruce are the most common sauna materials. Avoid knots where you sit though!

Nice sauna. Well done, but I don't think the air conditioning is adequate. The most important thing in a sauna, in addition to the heat, is that the saunas get enough oxygen. During the entire sauna, fresh air must come in and oxygen-free air must go out. It doesn't make sense to close air vents at the floor boundary, and in addition to them, fresh air must also come over the stove and there must be a sufficiently large air outlet under the shelves. Air must circulate.

Wonderful thing you did, congratulations! Only one suggestion: the correct pronunciation is actually “sow-nuh”, not “sAw-nah”. It sounds like splitting hairs but it means a great deal to a Finn 🇫🇮
