Using parts from the Isuzu donor truck, I build a cool wooden steering steering wheel. Then I repurpose the Isuzu steering column and customize it to fit the 1939 Hudson Big Boy I'm busy with.

This is gonna be among the best of Diff's videos! I can see wood dash panels and doors. I just knew there was a ship builder or carpenter in there somewhere! 😊

A great project with beautiful results.Ive been wondering how I will finish my steering wheel in my 40 dodge for a while now so thanks for the inspiration. My hands are old and beat-up as well so I think that the fat grip will be comfortable. Cheers from Edmonton Alberta Canada where it is 0c with light snow. Thanks for sharing

I love the wood steering wheel. One thing I want to do when I get a chance to build my own wood sterring wheel, is use brass rivets this guy from South Africa showed me how to do them. I can't wait. Great video Div. Bart

Man that eye in the wood is what I love about wood… no piece is the same. The infusion of wood and steel makes me feel like a cat has laid an egg inside me. Your work is like that wood… no single piece of work is the same and your humbleness reflects throughout

westport wa state, here sir. and what a fine turkey day it was. my wife got a stomach bug from something she had eaten the day before. felt bad for my wife. but did not have to go anywhere. hell yea. sat around and nothing but i wanted. for a whole day. home was built in 1930. so always something to do. replacing shingles is always fun.

I am an American Jeeper and love building my Jeep, but I also have a nice home wood shop and love to build for my family. I use a lot of rough cut specialty wood but have not heard of this one but it is beautiful, love the grain!!!! Thank You

Div, I love all the videos and youve made tons of great ones but I can see this one doing very well. I loved seeing the process of the entire wood steering wheel process, and of course Id love a tour of the wood work shop, its like a hidden gem that we've seen bits and pieces of. @@ratrodsafrica I dont think its to far out there because it seems you have built a great viewer base that is interested in your lifestyle, your hobbies, your history, and all the things in your life that got you to where you are now. We become who we are based on our journey and experiences in life. I always enjoy getting to know a different part of your life. Its like showing different pieces of the puzzle!

Ahhh but it'll never rust hahaha Really great video. Top job! I was betting with myself you'd sand the wheel while it spun around slowly in a lathe...the cordless drill lathe is complete & utter genius!!! This is the "Make-Do-Technology" I just love seeing. Absolute genius! I'm not at all fluent in wood n timber but the router table looks a pretty cool thing. Some tools just look like they'd be satisfying to use. Finished job is outstanding...that finished wood pops & glad you kept the Knot, adds even more cool character. Two thumbs up man!!!

There is a nice eye in that timber, literally looks like an eye. Router has to be one of the most useful woodworking tools, next to the Div drill lathe. Nice wheel for sure.

Maybe need a air ride bench seat. For those bumpy ole Africa roads. I like a Steering knob on my vehicles. Makes easy manuvours. You have to cut some glass for the middle of the wheel. The star of Africa. 🤣🤣Lekka Boet Lekka.

Love the steering wheel. Maybe more wood on dash and door panels later? I know you like the rat rod look .I do too.but this truck is to much of a masterpiece not to paint in my opinion. But whatever you decide. This is my favorite build so far.

I love your style my friend. That wheel is beautiful. Great watching you make it. I just put up some pine plank walls in a closet here, used danish oil for the finish. The look and feel of a steering wheel has a large influence on my impression of a vehicle. I'm not comfortable wearing gloves when I work either. Foam covered wheels must be the brainchild of the glove wearing crowd. Thanks Div for the walkthrough on this project. See ya next video.

Now I'm embarrassed about spelling your name wrong, and anyone watching should have hands that looks like yours, a 14mm is a tight 9/16th in SAE, but omg what a beautiful piece of wood, I'd love to build a kitchen with it as it should be on full display, nice work on the wheel and I love the center piece. I'm with you on the glove thing too only a Dr should worry about what their hands look like, if you have soft pretty hands your on the wrong channel, 😂😂 maybe a cooking show is more up your alley, great work Diff ❤❤

I spent my summer building a shop for my brother-in-law which has kept me away from your posts for a bit. Finally getting caught up. I love working with wood as well and would give my left one for an 8 foot stick of the wood you used for the steering wheel. Nothing like that here in Oregon. Everything you touch becomes a Rembrandt. So impressed. Awesome work my friend! Cheers!

Beautiful steering wheel. Looks like plenty of room in the cab too. Think I would have set the steel part of the wheel into epoxy in the groove for extra strength, but maybe it doesn't need that. Thanks Div.
