Appreciate that yall are always teaching and helping. Making solutions instead of crying about what we can't cure. We still praying for Michelle hope to see her better soon. Keep up the good work and God bless you all

I built a compost ring in my chicken pen today. Put leaves and old hay from last winter in it with some chicken manure.

Awesome! glad I saw this video. I am running a similar stationary system but with 26 birds and stay a little closer to CTOS method with a 1.5 c.y. pile a week(4 piles at any given time

Good stuff, but if I use chicken cull waste where I live, every animal from miles around would come to my property for a feast! How do you manage that aspect of this process?

@@PermaPasturesFarm21 Just thinking, but if I were to add char in addition to your mix, then my compost would benefit from the inoculation as well as it would reduce tempting odors?... I'm on a char making stretch atm. Thank you for the reply!

You guys are looking good in those t-shirts 🤩 you’re going to need a p.i.m.p s of permapastures farm calendar.🤣 Thanks so much for the shout out. You guys truly embody one of the key principles of permaculture. Cooperation not competition.

A good way to do this in an urban setting is like i do it. The carbon diaper becomes the floor of the chicken run and the floor of the roosting house. Throw all ur daily food scraps into the run. When it becomes too wet (rain and snow do that) add the roost bedding on top. I usually clean the run out once a month in the summer and from fall through winter i just keep adding until early spring (mid to late feb). I have a bin that collects all the clean outs...it just builds and builds until the bin is full and then i start turning it. I currently have my fall compost working now and in its 2nd turn. Ill turn it 3 more times and it will be done, then i put it under a tree and against our fence to rest and cool and really charge up the fungal growth for the rest of spring and summer, and use it to top my garden off when i put it to sleep or replant it in the fall and winter.....and the cycle continues. The chickens get all the greens from the garden and i get really rich compost as a byproduct. Just the way i do it.

If you want to not need to flip the compost pile constantly, make two rings like a doughnut, so that nothing is more than a foot away from the inner or outer ring, and you'll have a modified Johnson-Su Bioreactor. A one foot dia inner ring is all you need as long as it can support air flow.

I feel a bit like an utter failure. I have a good sized pile in the Chicken coop. I started maybe too late in the year. Every 2 days I turn my pile of frozen globs of compost. it is most certainly not heating up. 😧 I really do not know what to do with it . Just keep adding and turning. hope it will heat up at - 10 deg. I don't know.
