I would pack a pair of shorts and flip flops for Mexico. And you'll def need a coat for NYC and DC.

lol the naive optimism that late winter/early spring in nyc and dc would be anything like mexico

depending on how much time you're planning on spending outside in NY I would definitely recommend bringing a jacket of some sort, if you're going to be indoors most of the time you'll probably be okay but any amount of walking around will suuuuuuck (My husband's family is from there, and I the humble canadian find it ridiculously cold.)

NY & DC in Feb/March are a total crapshoot. Probably cold, most likely very wet and rainy, but also could be springtime perfection. I would recommend a roll up puffer, packable rain poncho and cute rain boots. Think 4 celcius with wind and rain.
@LucyLivinYT11 ай бұрын
Ahhh I didn't really have any rain gear as it's not something I deal with on the reg - I think the call for water / wind consideration is wise though!! Perhaps a bit of shopping is required 😅 I have so far been plenty warm though and haven't really used my thermals yet, so we'll see 👀 Thanks for watching 💖💗

It was really interesting to hear you talk through your reasoning for the pieces you chose. I am travelling to Italy and Glastonbury this June, and I am quietly dreading packing (esp shoes, yikes) because they are completely different situations with very different clothing requirements. Because most carry-on limits coming from NZ/Australia are 7 kgs, there's no point buying into the dream of just travelling with carry-on, but I still don't want to carry my entire wardrobe over the cobbled streets of Rome, you know? I feel like it is so easy to tumble down the rabbit hole of 'everything you need for a perfect trip!" but if I hate hats, do I really NEED to buy a hat like everyone in the travel forums say I do? I would definitely be into seeing a follow-up video where you talk about what worked and what didn't.

Oh my please bring a coat for the north. Bring a lighter one if you really need to but you need one! At least to block the wind and rain

New Orleans may be humid, it is during April and every night it rained. The berets are cute and will help keep the head warm in NYC and DC. I like the capsule wardrobe you designed here--its cute and versatile! I do like traveling with one nice outfit just in case, so maybe keep the skirt as some nicer restaurants would frown at the jeans or the plaid trousers.

I live in NYC ~ its been in the 30s and low 40s (Fahrenheit). I wear a coat most days; I'm not sure what winters in Australia are like but I think you should plan to bring some sort of jacket or coat.

Our weather in NY has been rather mild so you may be fine without a heavy coat but when it rains it can be rather messy. I recommend warm socks, a cozy hat, and a thin turtleneck (you could easily pick that up here).

I feel you, I don't love the look of elastic waist bands either. Maybe you can find or have a seamstress make a fabric denim belt to wear and maybe a couple of belt loops. Would make it look more finished without taking away from the comfort of the pants

your trip to dc and new york will be miserable !! if you dont have a proper coat, i would consider, however, maybe a lighter coat since that one looks very heavy and bulky. something that's warm like a puffer jacket. i love my aritzia tna coaches jacket for this! its vegan down and acts as a windbreaker from the outside, and inside its a cotton/polyester mix, so its warm in freezing weather but also light enough + a non sweat inducing material on your skin so it can be worn in warm weather. i wore it on a recent trip to new york/bahamas and it was both great with layers in the snowy weather and as a windbreaker during windy activities like sailing in the bahamas! it also doubles as a makeshift pillow if needed and can be compressed much smaller with the help of a packing cube love the video lucy!! everything is so cute, i hope you enjoy your trip😊

I frequently travel for 2+ months at a time, my best advice is to have your "uniform" which I think you've accomplished in your pseudo capsule wardrobe. I would say grab a beanie for the colder places and always bring sunglasses. I usually bring all of my undergarments that I own, but otherwise pack about 10 days worth of clothes (2-3 pants/shorts, 1 skirt, 5 short sleeves 5 long sleeves, 2 pairs of shoes) DC you can get away with layering late feb and march, NY you will need a coat at least until the end of march.
@melissamacneil451911 ай бұрын
I don't know if you said when you'll be in the Northern US and I missed it? I am from the martimes in Canada and that is basically New England. If you are going to be there end of Feb begining of March, you NEED a coat. If it'll be more towards April, you might be able to get away with it depending on your weather luck. You may end up needing to buy something if you don't bring it. As for the skirt, I'd bring that too. When I travelled in Greece there were restaurants that you couldn't get into with shorts/jeans/sneakers/sporty sandals.

20:46 honestly it’s been such a weird winter in NY. For the most part, I’ve been able to get away with wearing a lighter jacket with layers. But I’ve also lived my entire life here, so maybe I’m just not as sensitive to the cold anymore?
@marikotrue348811 ай бұрын
Knowing what the clothes cleaning situation is can be quite helpful as you can reuse items multiple times. When I stayed at a hostel in Japan, for a nominal (less than 1 U.S. dollar) I could wash and dry my clothes on site. Unfortunately the dryer decided to go on vacation while I was on MY vacation. Fortunately in the area I was staying line drying outside a window was something many locals did so no problem. Love the color palette in the capsule wardrobe. I also keep a nylon shopping bag in my bag for purchases or even carrying my jacket should the weather get warm.
@LucyLivinYT11 ай бұрын
Totally! I feel like it helps with your strategy - we've been travelling for a month now and we had somewhere with washing access but the dryer also didn't work 😅 So that effected how we planned our days a lil bit! The nylon tote has been super handy to have on hand, can't wait to update how the wardrobe went! 💖

I'm going on a trip this september (my first time leaving america omg!!!) and this vid is perfect bc I've been wondering about what clothes to take with me. I've only really gone on a flying trip once before and it was a disaster bc I had no idea what I was doing and was super nervous going on a trip alone and flying for the first time ever, completely alone, and somehow mixed up my clothes and brought the ones I didn't plan on bringing 😭I'm a bit of a maximalist and have multiple different styles I love to wear so it's gonna be hard packing a capsule wardrobe for a 1-2 week trip where I can only fit my clothes into 1 suitcase but I'll try to make it work!! I think choosing a color palette is the hardest part for me bc my style ranges from like grungey olive green and black to like baby blue and lavender and white. like do I wanna dress like a middle class teenage white girl or do I wanna dress like I'm a sweet grandma who will bake you a pie if you ask or do I wanna be a hot goth egirl I have nooo idea. at least I have plenty of time to get it all figured out and hopefully thrift some more staple pieces that are more versatile than some of the things I own rn. please do a follow up video showing what you actually wore during the trip!!! I would love that :)

When I was last in DC, I actually found a tea-length, mid-weight coat much more useful than a short, heavy one; you want something with room for layers and not much inner fuzz, because it's the layers that are going to be the comfy part. The outermost layer is to keep you dry and keep out the wind. We've been, um, sent good weather here in the Northeast lately, and with global warming being what it is, I expect that trend to hold throughout March, so it's less a matter of walking umpteen city blocks in adverse conditions (suck it up and take a cab/Uber) and more a matter of making it short distances when you're in the general place you want to be without getting drenched or feeling like a gale just flash-froze your nethers. The other thing you'll need to take care about up here is feet, hands, and head. Keep 'em dry, keep 'em warm. Hats and waterproof shoes do wonders. tl;dr if you need to thrift a wool overcoat in DC and donate it in NYC, nobody will blame you, just stay warm and dry and out of the spring breeze

@aksez2u11 ай бұрын
I think I would leave the pink coat behind. You're all set up for layers. Something you could consider that wouldn't add much bulk to your packing is a light shell/raincoat/wind breaker that could be used as an outermost layer to trap heat. Thermal+long sleeve+sweater+shell = you should be plenty warm.
@YourLittlePhoenix11 ай бұрын
While those berets are cute, they don't actually cover your ears, so if you're going somewhere where it's colder or windy, it's better to bring a beanie or a proper hat (or ever ear muffs if that's your thing) that actually covers the ears, it will mean a lot for warmth.
