Local Malaysian here. My condolences to Gretta for your loss, and am glad to see you had happy times in my country with your late husband and it's wonderful that you're building a new life back in UK now

Lovely, perfect for the Gretta. I love how she considered her guests and had two spare rooms, even though she would have no need, it shows a natural thought to other's comfort and well being. Personally, I would have built a bigger gap between the two houses, but that is pretty much the only change I would make.

WOW!! It's off the charts fantastic. Love it, lots of space and NO Stairs.. which I have hated since 12 yrs old, when my wonderful grandfather fell down the stairs and did not survive. What a fantastic sister and brother in law. Magnificent result.

I was born and raised in South East Asia and growing up in SEA I never seen house like that, very flat roof and very open inside. In Australia now a days, often you will see houses like this "open concept means living room and kitchen are open.

I find that even if you have differences there is always common ground. Things like baking, gardening, tennis, sports there is more to life then political views. Finding common ground with those different then you will help you become tolerant to all personalities.

@@TheRachag say that to my family and not me, I have tried. Not anymore. They live their narrow ignorant lives and I live my life, and that’s the way I want it. I don’t want to live my life getting hurt over and over again. But I have beautiful wonderful friends, that is enough for me.

@@aquajuwel7098 I say that you are a winner. Sometimes, families don’t gel as one big happy bunch. Sometimes, people aren’t able to find friends that are truly friends. It would be great if you could have both; but settle for one them - friends - and be happy. I don’t get on with my brother - we havent socialised together for 40 plus years. We are different; I don’t like him and he very probably doesn’t like me. So what? I’ve got a loving wife, children and great grand children. I’m very happy with my lot. The only goal I have is that, when I die, my children and great grand children miss me; what else is there? So, be happy with where you are. Rejoice in your good relationships. Allow others to go their way and, if they try to interfere, just tell them the truth.

I have seen many makeover/build shows and I never really 'get' the desire for such large open-plan spaces, which combine the kitchen, dining and living areas. Practically it calls for very good heating systems, insulation and measures to deal with solar gain from all that glass, as well as ventilation to deal with steam and cooking odours. The waft of baking bread may be pleasant, but being reminded of a brace of kippers hours after breakfast is not. For a single person or couple it might be OK (although I like to be able to close the kitchen door) to have the same surroundings for everything, and I can see that for a family with young children being able to supervise is a bonus, even if it does mean toys all over the floor. But when they become teenagers the personal/living space becomes the bedroom. If good fences make better neighbours - as the saying goes - maybe the opportunity to have dividing walls - even sliding/folding ones should at least figure somewhere in the plans?
