This makes me happy. Something I could do. Cheap enough to be economical to build. No need for super high tech. Just make it work.

For the brake vac pump, you could use a vacuum tank and vac sensor or regulator, something that sense the vacuum. The idea is to "fill the tank" with the desire vacuum every time the vac drops under a certain value, so the pump is activated at those specific moments, not all the time.
@alkharee1st Жыл бұрын
Yup.. connect the pump to a reservoir before going to the brake booster.

Awesome. Suuuuuper clean way to go with the oversize toolbox in the cut-out bed. Thanks for including so much detail in the video. Looking forward to more. Also, for vac pump I like the Leeds brand, very quiet. Summit sells them.

Very nice...I have a 1998 2WD Ranger, I will convert to EV when I have saved up the $'s. I wonder why not install the batteries in-between the chassis rails below the truck bed. You must have your reasons.

I saw a video of a guy who converted a s10 to electric. Long before lithium batteries were popular, he used lead acid which had to double the weight of the truck. Anyways, he built battery boxes that were mounted between the frame rails of the truck. Personally, in my opinion, that is a better way of doing it due to a lower center of gravity, and it will aid in keeping the cells cooler during the summer when it sits in the sun. Also, this would allow you to add more cells and increase the overall capacity of the truck. Say you keep the same series packs but add additional parallel packs to increase the overall capacity. Yes, these are 250ah packs, but how much further can you go if you had say, 6s 4p packs? That would be over a 1000 ah of capacity. Something to consider guys!!!

Great Job. What are the Truck's specs? Controller, battery pack voltage/capacity, Range, Speed, Charger. In any case, you can get more power and range if you replace that heavy flywheel for an aluminum couterpart or make that lighter in the machine shop.
@peterduxbury927 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I have to agree with you 100%. The Truck no longer needs the Ring Gear, and (just the removal of that) would make a huge difference. Turning the o/d of the Flywheel - down to the bare minimum where the Pressure Plate Assembly attaches around the Flywheel. The take-offs will be instantly much quicker from the Lights, but (much worse than this) is the wasted Battery Power. Each time that you slow down, stop, or speed-up again, the Flywheel Mass has a resistance to motion. Lightening this Flywheel Mass will definitely increase the Trucks' Range.

omg look how much room there is in the engine compartment compared to the 2002 4 cylinder Ranger I am shocked! time 1:18 The adapter plate is never available from 3rd parties, the battery cooling system is not required if you used lead plate batteries. What did you do for A/C and brake hydraulic power? This is a conversion that only an electrician can do.

Add a gas generator for extended range and see how many MPG you can get. The generator should be powerful enough to recharge the batteries and keep the car moving at the same time.

The thing about having the batteries in the tool box is you definitely need to have extra ventilation because those batteries can get extremely hot, especially inside of a toolbox with the summer sun heating it up the whole time

I'm curious about gear changes. Do you operate the clutch and change gears as normal, or can you leave the car in, say, 3rd or 4th gear without worrying about changing gears?
@thousandparadox6 ай бұрын
I still use the clutch. I still need to use all the gears, however I can use 2nd coming off the line but it's slow. Using the cutch at a stop is optional since there is no way to stall the electric motor.

Make the ranger more reliable: replace the ICE drive train with an EV drive train. lol (we had a company w/ a fleet of rangers - all of which had a ridiculous amount of engine and/or transmission problems - we ended up getting rid of the whole lot after only about a year of service ~ 90-100K miles on each).

If you are going to put in that much time, money and labor, why not go get a brushless motor. Seems like there are NIssan Leaf motors in junk yards and Tesla motors out there. I guess the brush motor would be OK for around town for 20 miles, but there's no regen braking. I guess the budget is what it is. Electric trucks are super fun to drive. It will be great.
@GhostDancer65 Жыл бұрын
NackDSP, there's still no comparison to the bang you get from a buck of series-wound DC motor. My Ghia has 340 kW of power at less cost than a salvaged LEAF-based build. But you're right,,, no regen. I had to really upgrade the brakes!
@motocache6645 Жыл бұрын
