Thank you so much for explaining this. While I don't ever want to appear spammy nor do I want to go against Etsy's policy, I can see where I've gone wrong and I appreciate the wakeup call. I do have a Mailchimp setup and they use great language at the bottom that says something like: You are receiving this communication because you either requested it or signed up on a list from Etsy. You can unsubscribe or modify the list here:" (something to that effect.), and then there's a link to change the info. I have to say that my email list has worked for me, although I don't have a lot of subscribers. I appreciate the tips on creating a special URL and placing it in my listing, photos, etc. Maybe that way, my subscribers will increase.

+Beth P most welcome! You’re right that little text at the bottom is very important! I’m glad to hear your email list has been working for you. It’s a myth that you need a big list to get results from it, and you’re proof of it! Now wait until you use those extra tips...boom!!

Lovely video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Donndrew Uncomplex Dominion (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great exclusive product for discovering how to generate free subscribers and make money minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate after many years got amazing results with it.

If I offer a 15% discount code to get their email address, how can I prevent them from using the same code over and over or is that OK? Great question, Bev! At the moment, you can't create any 1-time-use discount codes, nor can you prevent shoppers from reusing the codes. To make them expire, you would need to actually delete them manually, which technically you could do monthly, but it's a bit of a pain. That said, you should certainly have a built-in margin for the discount to balance things out. Hope this helps! - L

Good question! Still worth collecting the email addresses (so long as the users provided consent). Sometimes companies will reach out months after you buy something saying "You're getting this email because..." to keep everything transparent :) - L

As an Etsy seller I always send a personalized confirmation email via Etsy convo to every customer confirming their order (size, color, style, etc) with the estimated shipping date and shipping method. Can I include a blurb at the bottom of that message saying "join the mailing list and be the first to know about exclusive sales and new products and designs, click here" or something along those lines? Aside from putting the mailing list link at the bottom of each listing and in the shop Headlines and Policies, where else should that link go so people can actually see it?

Hi Claudia, no you don't need a website, you can do what I explained in the video and simply use the landing pages and forms from tools like Mailchimp and Mailerlite :-) An email list helps you get repeat customers yes, but most importantly more sales even from people who never bought from you before. It takes more than one interaction with your shop and products for someone to purchase. If they visit your shop and leave without buying (which 90%+ of people will do), you've "lost them" and will need to constantly try and bring brand new traffic to your shop. Turning them into email subscribers mean you can contact them and bring them BACK to your website so you can build trust and eventually get them to hit the buy button :-) Also, you OWN your email list - which is very important to protect yourself from algorithm changes for example as you always have a way to contact your customers/subscribers even if you suddenly lose say Etsy SEO traffic.

Ok so I signed up to mail chimp and got that landing page address. I am putting that address in my thank you message for my latest sale... it's not clickable so do you have to tell them also to copy and paste into a new browser to get to the sign up or is there a way to make it a clickable link?

You should be able to make it clickable, Tom. If you need help troubleshooting, probably best to contact Mailchimp directly as they would be able to more accurately pinpoint what the problem is. - L
