You’re such a BLESSING! 🥰 Quick question, do you know if emails from ConvertKit go directly to your customers’ Inboxes, instead of to the Promotions folder (when using Gmail)? I learned that some Mail Chimp’s emails go to the Promotions folder, instead. Or is there a way to avoid this from happening? Thank you so much in advance! I’d greatly appreciate your help! 🥰

Good question actually. I know that ConvertKit and others strongly suggest that you use a domain email address (like yourwebsite dot com versus gmail) as your "sent from" address - mostly to prevent them from going to spam. It looks like it can happen with ConvertKit - I found this article that explains help.convertkit.com/en/articles/3854922-gmail-promotions-tab

I have a Google spreadsheet that I plan out the basic ideas then schedule them with Hootsuite if I can make them ahead of time. A couple videos ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6vOdGl9ZZyXpK8 I talked about social media scheduling - there are free ones out there! I really only use Hootsuite because I have a bunch of different accounts and I can see them all in one place.

Great info! So if i'm right, the way to legally and politely get people's emails, and to subscribe to your mailing list, would be to put a link to a holding page in your order confirmation for them to click on then enter their address to sign up (with an incentive, free download printable, voucher etc)?

Yes! You could also have a listing photo advertising the list with an incentive. Since making this video I switched to AWeber and it integrates with Etsy to send customers an email after they purchase, asking if they'd like to sign up. They can ignore it, or click to confirm the subscription. I got more email subscribers that way than with the discount incentive.

Hi, thanks for this info! I have had an etsy shop since 2016, but just now setting up Mailchimp for a new website and new Shopify, so wanted to know how to get signups from Etsy too. You say you put the link to sign up in your "order confirmation messages". What is this? Is this something Etsy sends out automatically to buyers, like they send out an email automatically to buyers when you mark something as dispatched? Or do you actually message buyers on the Etsy Messages/Convo to confirm their order and put the offer/link there within the Etsy Messages? Thanks!

In your settings in the shop manager, go to "info and appearance" and the last box at the bottom has the "message to buyers" - this is automatically emailed to them with the receipt when they place an order!

Can you set up a mailing list that sends a unique discount code to everyone? I'd like to start a mailing list for my knitting patterns and love the idea of offering a sign up discount, however I'm worried about people using the code more than once or it getting passed to other people.

Etsy doesn't currently do one-time coupon codes 😕 I don't think it's that big of an issue, really. There's not much incentive for people to share, since all the other person has to do is sign up for the list. Just make sure you'd be okay with the discount being used on any order (pricing-wise). You could also change it every few months just to be sure!

If you use AWeber, they will connect directly to your shop to collect emails after someone makes an order. But if you use another service like Mailchimp or Convertkit you'll need to make a landing page with their site, and put the link to the landing page in your shop story section, on listing descriptions, etc and entice people to sign up with a discount code.

Mailchimp doesn't sync with Etsy, AWeber is the only one that does. If you use Mailchimp just add the signup link to your product descriptions and add a photo with a discount incentive to sign up for the mailing list.
