In this video I am building an IBC firewood tote for firewood storage here on our homestead. The totes are nice because they can be moved around with a tractor and they feature a 'roof' to keep the firewood dry.

Great idea on adding the top to be able to fit more wood on and keep it dry . Them ibc totes are expensive up here in Maine so we make custom pallets that we can move around and dump

My plan is to use a standard wooden pallet with a circle of wire mesh on it.

Awesome idea. Way better than cutting them corner to corner. Thanks for the idea. I’m going to do it on my totes as well. 👍

Thanks for the video! Is there any other use for the bladder if you only use one side of it for a smaller cover instead of cutting it in half to make two covers (which would mean having two times more covers than totes)? Also, curious if instead of affixing the top with screws, what about putting a ledge (wood or metal) in each corner for the top to sit on so that you could have easy on, easy off? You mentioned a counter-balance on the back of your tractor…I am also so worried about pitch-poling that I always have an attachment of some type on the back…maybe not necessary but more a piece of mind for me.

Thanks! I've seen all kinds of ideas. We use an unused half as a chick brooder; much better than a cardboard box since it's plastic. I've seen people use them as 'raised garden beds', etc. You get the idea. I took my extra intact bladders and sold them on marketplace for a few bucks and recouped some of the cost of the ibc tote.

Cut the the IBC container in half from corner to corner then you have two pitched roof tops ∆ ∆

What size kubota? I have the LX 2610 and I have trouble lifting a 275 IBC tote with just two stacks of fire wood in it.

Hey great video I like the idea, I could use 250 or even 275 and make a face cord out of them by stacking them higher like that. The only thing I would do or try differently is cut the edges and try and self tap over the ibc so the water isn’t forced to running down the wood, if u give that a try, please share thanks so much and keep up the good work.

Thanks! The next one I make I want to try what you said. I have heard of people slitting the corners of the plastic and it allows enough wiggle room for it to go on the outside of the tote. I will try it next time!

when you cut the tank in half you stated it was 46'' tall..thats the height of a 275 gallon tote..a 330 should be 53''
@SkylineAcresVA
@SkylineAcresVA 7 ай бұрын
The confusion is how the measurement was taken. 46" was the measurement of the actual plastic bladder since I was trying to find the middle. That didn't account for the pallet or anything. The entire IBC tote in original configuration measures 48" x 40" x 53". 53" from the ground to the top of the steel cage. The 275's are 46" high from ground to top of cage.
@rat8356
@rat8356 7 ай бұрын
@@SkylineAcresVA ok that helps thanks..what is the actual inside dimensions of the cage?..if the tank was 46'' tall then the cage not counting the skid must be around 46'' then right?..what about inside depth and width of the cage?

I like that you seem to be very well organized. But in my opinion , you are handling your splits way too many times. Chris at In The Wood Yard in now piling it high on pallets and he wishes he would have piled it 20 years ago. On three cords of wood he saves three hours if stacking and unstacking. If you split six cords a month thats six hours more if doing what ever else a month. Best wishes with your channel, I will go watch some more

Thanks for commenting! I am now splitting directly into the IBC totes. I just didn't have any totes to start.
